Symantec Announces New Global License Program
Companies Worldwide Benefit From Consistent, Cost-Effective
Global Pricing and Support; Flexible and Easy to Use Licensing Program
Cupertino, Calif. June 1, 1999 - Symantec Corporation
announced today its new Global License Program (GLP). This new program enables
large companies to leverage the size of their organization, on a domestic,
international or global scale, to save money and provide consistent volume
pricing for all their locations and subsidiaries worldwide. Companies, using the
Global License Program, can leverage that same global pricing when purchasing
any Symantec product anywhere in the world.
"Symantec's corporate business is growing rapidly, with nearly 120 percent
year-to-year growth in each of the last two years," said Dana Siebert, executive
vice president, worldwide sales and marketing services at Symantec. "Symantec's
Global License Program, makes it even easier for our corporate customers to work
with us, ensuring they receive the best possible pricing and support, and
providing tremendous flexibility and ease-of-use."
How the Program Works
Symantec's new Global License Program is patterned after the Lotus Passport
Program and the Microsoft Select Program, providing large companies a familiar
and effective purchasing framework. Participation begins with a Foundation
Agreement from a company's headquarters, which establishes the most favorable
price band available to the company. The price band is determined by the total
number of forecasted units, enterprise-wide, of any combination of Symantec
products over the following two years. The headquarters and all of its listed
locations or subsidiaries are then entitled to purchase any quantity of any
Symantec product at the established price band for the duration of the
Foundation Agreement.
Subsidiaries desiring local sales and support, or wishing to use a local
reseller, can use the program's Subsidiary Agreement. This gives subsidiaries
the ability to leverage the corporate pricing structure while maintaining
control of their local purchasing decisions.
Companies wishing to implement Symantec products enterprise-wide can leverage
the Global License Program, using the Enterprise Agreement, to save time and
reduce processing costs, as well as earn additional discounts. The Enterprise
Agreement builds on the original Foundation Agreement and allows the customer to
purchase all enterprise-wide licenses at one time and speed enterprise
implementation.
Companies can receive Upgrade Insurance through the Symantec Global License
Program, which grants companies the right to upgrade products to any new version
released during the term of the agreement. Global License Program customers can
also access Symantec's Gold and PremiumCare Platinum Support. Upgrade Insurance
and Technical Support can be purchased for all of their locations, helping
companies to further reduce IT costs.
Program Requirements
Participation in Symantec's new Global License Program requires a Foundation
Agreement and 2-year, 2000 unit minimum forecast. Subsidiaries wishing to
receive local sales and support and to work with local resellers must establish
a Subsidiary Agreement, which requires a minimum 500-license forecast over the
term of the Foundation Agreement.
The program will be rolled out to Symantec resellers in a phased approach
beginning with select global resellers. The rollout to remaining resellers is
expected to continue through late 1999.
Other Symantec Licensing Programs
Symantec also offers customers the Premier Value Program, a certificate-based
program, providing volume discounts and a low minimum initial purchase of only
10 units. This program requires no contracts, minimizing paperwork and
processing time for small and large businesses.
What Symantec's Global Resellers say about the Global License Program "This is a
very timely program," states Harry Zoberman, Senior Vice President of Operations
and Marketing for ASAP Software Express. "The ability to serve the international
requirements of our customers continues to grow in importance. Symantec's Global
License Program allows the entire organization take advantage of their
technology while realizing enterprise-wide economies of scale. When you combine
that with ASAP E-Way, our electronic commerce system that allows organizations
to buy, track, and manage software licenses online from anywhere in the world,
you have a real global solution."
"Symantec's solution to global customer requirements absolutely hits the mark.
Our customers need to be able to negotiate their Volume License Agreements
centrally while leveraging all their worldwide desktops. However, once the
agreement has been signed, they need to be able to do business locally. They
want to be able to maintain local relationships, purchase in local currencies
and communicate in their local language. Symantec's Global License Program
enables them to do business exactly as they want. It's a great solution." Gail
Sears, Director of Global Business for Corporate Software and Technology
"We look forward to offering the Symantec's Global License Program to our
customers," said Robert Burton, President and COO of Softmart. "The Global
License Program is a solid solution that ensures the best possible price as well
as quality service and support to our customers anywhere in the world."
