Symantec Norton AntiVirus Bundled with Intel Motherboards
Integration Provides Small Office, Home Office Environments
Online Business Protection and Security
Cupertino, Calif. June 21, 1999 - Symantec Corporation
(Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in utility software for business and personal
computing, today announced it has signed an OEM agreement with Intel Corp.
(Nasdaq: INTC) to bundle Norton AntiVirus with more than 2 million Intel
Motherboards, beginning this month. The integration of Symantec's award-winning
anti-virus software with the performance, power, and quality of Intel
Motherboards provides important online business protection and security features
for small office, home office environments.
"As Internet use escalates, so does the proliferation of Internet-borne viruses,"
said Enrique Salem, vice president of Symantec's Security and Assistance Business
Unit. "By bundling Norton AntiVirus with Intel Motherboards, Symantec is offering
small office and home office customers the highest level of protection to guard
against malicious code in e-mail attachments and Internet downloads."
"Not only do Intel Motherboards provide great performance for their end user
customers, but the benefits derived with the addition of Norton AntiVirus
software allow Intel to provide automatic virus protection that will bring
customers peace of mind as they become increasingly connected to the Internet,"
said BC Ooi, Intel Vice President and General Manager of the OEM Platforms
Solutions Division.
Norton AntiVirus is the number one anti-virus software in the world, providing
automatic protection against viruses and other malicious code at all entry
points. Norton AntiVirus is the only anti-virus software to include
security-enhancing, state-of-the-art technologies such as LiveUpdate, NAVEX, Scan
and Deliver, Bloodhound, and AutoProtect as well as expert support from the
Symantec AntiVirus Research Center (SARC). Norton AntiVirus is also an integral
component of Symantec's award-winning Norton SystemWorks utility suite.
This recent bundling agreement offers further evidence of the increasingly
complementary relationship between Symantec and Intel. In September 1998,
Symantec purchased Intel's anti-virus business and licensed Intel systems
management technology. Symantec's recently announced Digital Immune System will
utilize this management technology to allow administrators to automatically
distribute software updates or control distribution.
