University of California, Davis Selects Norton Antivirus After Extensive Software Evaluation

UC Davis Purchases Licenses for 18,000 Seats of Norton AntiVirus

Cupertino, Calif, August 4, 1999 - Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC) announced today that the University of California, Davis has purchased a license for 18,000 seats of Norton AntiVirus to protect its campus wide network.

UC Davis selected Norton AntiVirus following an exhaustive two-month long evaluation program involving 15 testers. In addition to the Symantec product, the university tested software from Sophos, Command Software and Network Associates for a range of functions from ease of installation, set-up and update along with intuitiveness of virus detection.

UC Davis, ranked among the top 11 public universities nationally and admitted two years ago into the prestigious Association of American Universities, deployed Norton AntiVirus campus wide for 14,000 users in April and purchased an additional 4,000 seats for student usage in May.
