CUPERTINO, Calif. Oct. 18, 1999 - Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: "SYMC")
today announced strategic partnerships with Internet superstore Beyond.com
(Nasdaq: "BYND") and Fatbrain.com (Nasdaq: "FATB"), the Internet's most
comprehensive professional bookstore, to provide upgrade and information services
to subscribers of Norton Web Services, the Internet's best place to help keep a
PC problem-free. Norton Web Services' new LiveUpdate Pro service will recommend
purchasable upgrades to software products as well as books relating to software
the subscriber has on their system. These new partnerships will give customers
an easier way to find and purchase software upgrades directly from Beyond.com's
selection of more than 1.6 million software and other digital products as well as
from Fatbrain.com's world-class selection of technical and business books and
training materials.

Norton Web Services, LiveUpdate Pro locates and helps customers install free
