for Macintosh 6.0 Compatible with Mac OS 9
Symantec Recommends Latest Versions of
Utility Software to Customers Migrating to Apple's New Operating
System
CUPERTINO, Calif. November 1, 1999 Symantec Corporation
(Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced that Norton
Utilities for Macintosh 5.0 and Norton
AntiVirus for Macintosh 6.0 are ready to provide unparalleled
protection, prevention, and repair capabilities for customers running
Apple's new Mac OS 9. Symantec recommends that customers who plan to
migrate to the new Macintosh operating system also upgrade to new
versions of Norton Utilities and Norton AntiVirus for Macintosh to be
compatible with Mac OS 9.
Earlier versions of Norton Utilities and Norton AntiVirus for Macintosh
were developed prior to changes in the way Mac OS tracks open files and
will not function properly with OS9. Registered users of previous
versions of either one of these products are eligible to purchase both
Norton Utilities for Macintosh 5.0 and Norton AntiVirus for Macintosh
6.0 at upgrade prices.

Norton Utilities for Macintosh 5.0 is an all-in-one problem-solving
solution that troubleshoots and repairs Macintosh systems. Norton
AntiVirus for Macintosh 6.0 guards against virus infection at all
possible entry points, including the Internet and e-mail.
Like Mac OS 9, Norton Utilities for Macintosh 5.0 and Norton AntiVirus
for Macintosh 6.0 include tools that make it safe, easy, and more
productive for consumers to use the Internet. Macintosh users of all
levels of experience can use the point-and-click features of Norton
Utilities and Norton AntiVirus to keep their systems trouble-free and
operating at peak performance.
Both products include an enhanced LiveUpdate utility, which
automatically detects an Internet connection and connects to a Symantec
server using ftp protocol, then downloads and installs the latest virus
definition and software updates. Norton AntiVirus for Macintosh 6.0
also includes improved scanning capabilities. Speed of initial scans,
subsequent virus scans, and LiveUpdate are better than 20% faster than
before. Norton Utilities for Macintosh 5.0 now features Live Repair,
which enables users to perform repairs without booting from the CD.
Pricing and Availability
Norton Utilities for Macintosh 5.0 and Norton AntiVirus for Macintosh
6.0 are available now. Norton Utilities for Macintosh 5.0 is regularly
priced at US$99.95; upgrade price is US $49.95. Norton AntiVirus for
Macintosh 6.0 is regularly priced at US$69.95; upgrade price is
US$29.95. Users of either product may purchase both products at their
upgrade prices.
