Omni Tech Corporation Reduces Customer Installation Cost; Purchases 100,000 Seats Of Norton Ghost
CUPERTINO, Calif. – Nov. 16, 1999 - Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq:
SYMC) today announced that Omni Tech Corporation, the largest computer
manufacturer in Wisconsin, has purchased a license for 100,000 seats of Norton
Ghost, Symantec's industry-leading technology for fast, reliable PC imaging and
management.
Omni Tech Corporation, a custom builder of performance desktop computers, graphic
workstations and servers, will rely on Norton Ghost, Symantec's disk-cloning
product, to configure and distribute new PCs to their customers more effectively
and more efficiently.
"Corporations suffer a tremendous amount of wasted productivity when
they rollout new PC's," said Kirk Heminger, marketing manager for Omni
Tech. "Norton Ghost dramatically reduces the time spent by our
technicians when configuring and cloning new computer systems. Our
customers really appreciate their new PCs arriving with their custom
images preloaded, they can deploy them and get users up and running in
seconds."
Norton Ghost works by creating an identical image of a hard disk drive,
effectively taking a 'snapshot' of all the files - including hidden, visible and
system files that make up the operating system, applications and configurations
settings. This image can then be copied simultaneously to any number of servers,
to create identical installations. Norton Ghost enables increased productivity
by allowing multiple workstations to be installed at the same time.
