Deutsche Post To Use Symantec's Norton AntiVirus
Group License for 60,000 PCs
CUPERTINO, Calif. Jan. 17, 2000 - Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq:
SYMC) today announced that the German post service, Deutsche Post AG, is to
standardize its Bonn headquarters and all other operations on Symantecıs
AntiVirus solution.
Norton AntiVirus will be installed onto 60,000 PCs running Windows NT 4.0 as part
of their standard configuration during the first quarter of 2000. Deutsche Post
AG has the option of additional licences to use the Symantec solution in
subsidiary operations in Germany and overseas, and has also purchased a two year
Platinum support contract with 24 hour access to Symantec engineers.
According to Michael Nowak, project leader at Deutsche Post AG, the main reasons
behind the decision to use the Symantec solution were: "the extensive support
package offered by Symantec and the NAVEX technology."
"We consider good, fast support to be indispensable where viruses are concerned,"
he says. "It is a critical issue for a company, because a single virus can knock
out the whole network and thus create costs that run into millions."
NAVEX (Norton AntiVirus Extensible Engine) is a core technology in Symantec's
Norton AntiVirus solution range which enables modifications or updates to the
engine to be delivered online in response to new viruses or strains of virus. The
engine update is applied by customers across multiple platforms in a single,
cost-efficient deployment as part of the LiveUpdate process to install new virus
definitions.
