Symantec's Norton Antivirus Solutions Earn Icsa Anti-Virus Certification For Windows 2000
CUPERTINO, Calif. - March 16, 2000 -- Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today
announced that two of its Norton AntiVirus products have been certified by ICSA
for use with Windows 2000. Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition and
Norton AntiVirus 2000 passed ICSAšs stringent requirements for detecting and cleaning
viruses on Windows 2000 systems.
ICSA, provider of objective Internet security assurance services, sets standards
for commercial security products. Its certification validates that the product
significantly reduces risks associated with Internet use.
"Symantec provides peace-of-mind to customers migrating to Windows 2000 by
safeguarding their data and systems," said Vincent Weafer, director of Symantec
AntiVirus Research Center. "We're extending our award-winning virus detection
technology to Windows 2000 users."
To achieve ICSA Anti-Virus Certification for Windows 2000, Norton AntiVirus
Corporate Edition and Norton AntiVirus 2000 used both on-access and on-demand
scanning to detect 100 percent of the viruses found to be "in the wild." Products
were tested against virus samples contained in the ICSA library. ICSA's virus
libraries and test suites are updated at least monthly, and products are randomly
tested every 60 days to ensure they are current. Products that fail spot checks
from the previous month's library must correct the problem and ship the solution
or the certification status is revoked.
"We continually update our certification criteria, continually challenging
products to meet increasingly exacting specifications in order to ensure their
security in a rapidly changing digital world," said George Japak, vice president
of ICSA Labs. "Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition and Norton AntiVirus 2000 have
earned ICSA certification through their effective virus detection and repair
technology."
