CUPERTINO, Calif. - March 21, 2000 -- Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced the appointment of Bill Owens and Dan Schulman to the Symantec board of directors.

As co-chief executive officer and vice chairman of Teledesic LLC since 1998, Owens brings extensive experience in corporate growth strategies and worldwide relationships in the government sector. Schulman, president and chief operating officer of priceline.com, has solid experience in developing customized services to meet distinct customer segment needs and creating new distribution channels to generate significant growth.

"We are pleased and excited to welcome Bill and Dan to the Symantec team. We hope to leverage Bill's extensive international experience as well as Dan's skills in building high-growth businesses in the Internet marketplace," said John W. Thompson, Symantec chairman, president and CEO. "They will be critical resources to Symantec as we continue to expand our leadership in providing Internet security solutions for the broad-market consumer and the corporate enterprise."

At Teledesic, Owens currently spearheads business development and government marketing activities. Previously, Owens was president, chief operating officer and vice chairman of Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC), the nation's largest employee-owned high technology company. During his two-year tenure as president, the company grew more than 160 percent to $5 billion.

Before going into the private sector, Owens held the rank of admiral in the US Navy and was vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Owens is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. He has bachelor's and master's degrees in politics, philosophy and economics from Oxford University and a master's degree in management from George Washington University.

At priceline.com, Schulman has broad responsibility for all operations, technology, marketing and product development. Schulman was an executive vice president of AT&T as well as the president of the Consumer Markets Division. Schulman came to Consumer Markets after building AT&T WorldNet service into the largest and fastest-growing Internet service provider in the country. He also served as chief of marketing for AT&T's $24 billion Business Markets Group where he led the integration of wireless, e-commerce and local services into innovative bundles. Graduating from Middlebury College in 1980, Schulman has a bachelor's degree in economics and geography. He received a master's in business administration from the New York University Graduate School of Business Administration in 1986.
