Symantec's Corporate Virus Solution Named Network Magazine Product of the Year

Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 7.0 Continues to Garner Top Recognition

CUPERTINO, Calif. - April 17, 2000 Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced that Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 7.0 has been named 2000 Network Anti-Virus Product of the Year by Network Magazine, the only monthly magazine to cover computer networks. The 13th Annual Product of the Year Awards will be presented Wednesday, May 10 during Networld + Interop, at the Bellagio Hotel reception in Las Vegas. Winners will also be featured in the May issue of Network Magazine.

"We are pleased to be singled out as the best-of-breed anti-virus solution for the enterprise," said Gail Hamilton, senior vice president, enterprise solutions division. "We are committed to providing our corporate customers with high-performance, easy-to-use content security solutions."

According to the editors at Network Magazine, " Symantec is a top player in the virus protection game, and Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 7.0 is more than capable of keeping pace with ever-changing virus attacks." Network Magazine chose its winners based on numerous factors including top performance, top combination of price and performance, ingenious use of a novel technology, expanding the appeal of a solution to a broader audience, and continuous improvement over a lengthy span of time. Among the thousands of new products that appeared in 1999, Network Magazineís editors chose 41 as 2000 Products of the Year Award Winners.

Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 7.0 continues to receive top honors from influential publications including Secure Magazine and Network Computing. It received numerous accolades at the Secure Computing Millennium Awards, acquiring the Secure Computing Readers Trust Award for Best Antivirus Product 2000; the Secure Computing Academy Award for Best Antivirus Product 2000 and the Principle Award for Best Security Software overall. Additionally, Norton AntiVirus is a finalist in Network Computingís Well Connected Award that will be awarded Monday, May 8 during Networld + Interop.

Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 7.0 protects corporations from malicious virus attacks and is part of Symantecís Norton AntiVirus Enterprise Solution. It protects Windows 95/98/NT systems, Windows 2000 workstations and servers, and Novell NetWare servers, and allows network managers to manage the product from a single console.

The product includes the Quarantine Server and Console--a safe central location for isolating and managing suspicious files or files damaged beyond repair as part of the corporate Scan and Deliver process. IT managers can also monitor and control the processing of infected files being held in Quarantine when new virus definitions are returned from SARC. Scan and Deliver, an automatic, global response process for submitting suspected or infected files and receiving virus repair definitions, provides the fastest analysis and response to new virus threats.

Using a revolutionary, heuristic technology, Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 7.0 finds new viruses automatically. The product does an excellent job of staying on top of new and unknown viruses through heuristic technology, Network Magazine editors wrote.
