Symantec Appoints Cress Carter To Head U.S. Corporate Sales And Marketing
Group to Focus on Security Solutions for Enterprise Customers
CUPERTINO, Calif. - April 20, 2000
Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced the appointment of Cress Carter as
vice president of U.S. Corporate Sales and Marketing, which is responsible for
enterprise customers in the commercial, government, and education sectors. Carter
was formerly president of L-3 Network Security, which was acquired by Symantec in
March.
"Enterprise customers are looking for a trusted partner to help plan and
implement sustainable security policies and safeguards," said John W. Thompson,
Symantec chairman, president and CEO. "Carter's enterprise experience will be a
valuable asset in bringing our solutions, services and channel partners together
to focus on solving security issues for our customers."
The Corporate Sales and Marketing group will work closely with Symantec's
Professional Services team and channel partners to help customers assess the
business risks associated with their computer networks, develop sound security
policies to reduce those risks, and implement and maintain cost-effective
security solutions.
As a founder of L-3 Network Security, Carter oversaw the development of the
company's risk assessment and vulnerability management technologies, which are
now part of Symantec's operational security offering. Carter has also worked
closely with CIOs in the United States and Europe to understand enterprise
security needs.
Carter joined Symantec after more than 16 years' experience in information
security and sales and marketing, including heading up the security products
group for Trident Data Systems. Prior to that, Carter ran the worldwide sales,
channels, marketing and services organization for nView Corp. and Hughs-JVC
Technology Corp. Carter holds a master of business administration degree in
marketing and technology management from the University of Virginia.
