Symantec Security Experts Address E-Gov 2000 Conference
CUPERTINO, Calif. - Sept. 25, 2000 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), a world leader in Internet security technology, today announced Char Sample, architect at Symantec Research Labs, and John Waters, principal engineer at Symantec Research Labs, are participating at the E-Gov 2000 Conference, "Information Assurance At-A-Glance" held Sept. 25 – 28 in Alexandria,Va. Sample and Waters are co-hosting a tutorial session titled, "Internet Security Primer," on Monday, Sept. 25 from 1:30 – 5:30 p.m. The tutorial offers government managers an understanding of the Internet security issues that continuously challenge the integrity of information systems within the public sector. The sessions include a highlight on security issues for wireless technology by Waters and a presentation on Internet security by Sample.
"The emergence of wireless applications and the alarming attacks on Internet networks present new challenges that require government and enterprise organizations to take assertive action to protect their technology and information investments," said Sample. Sample is an architect for Symantec Research Labs and has more than 15 years of experience in the industry. Sample’s expertise includes firewall installation, deployment of e-commerce solutions, implementation of organizational training, and a history of conference presentations on the topic of Internet security. Sample holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in systems management at Capitol College.
Waters is a principal engineer at Symantec Research Labs and has a strong background in intrusion detection and secure network design. His expertise includes attack and penetration testing and DMZ designs. Waters has over five years of experience in the industry and has participated in several speaking engagements on telecommunications security for the Department of Justice, the Security Armed Forces Radio Network, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Waters studied biochemistry and mathematics at Temple University in Philadephia.
