Symantec Security Expert Addresses ITAA Conference On Preventive Action Against Cyber Attacks
CUPERTINO, Calif. -October 16, 2000 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), a world leader in Internet security, today announced Steve Trilling, director of Advanced Concepts at Symantec Corp., is addressing the Information Technology Association of America (ITAA) Global InfoSec Summit, to be hosted in Washington D.C. on Oct. 16 - 17. Trilling is featured on the panel as a leading Internet security expert to address the importance of good "cyber hygiene" and advise on preventive action against cyber threats. The session is scheduled twice on Oct. 16 from 2 - 3:15 p.m. and later from 3:30 - 4:45 p.m.
"Viruses and other cyber attacks have become increasingly destructive in today's connected infrastructure, increasing the need for both solid security systems as well as appropriate policy measures," Trilling said. "By taking a variety of proactive security steps, corporations and home users alike can greatly reduce risk to their machines from the dangers of cyber crime."
The Global Information Security (InfoSec) Summit gathers industry and government leaders from around the globe to discuss the critical issues of information security and infrastructure assurance. An expected audience of 400-500 includes cross-industry business executives, international government officials, InfoSec specialists, multilateral governmental officials, and media. The event will raise awareness of the issues, promote cross-national and cross-sectoral collaboration, identify policy needs, and launch a global partnership for addressing InfoSec issues on an on-going basis.
As director of Advanced Concepts, Trilling oversees research and development of security technologies that Symantec is building for the Internet infrastructure. Prior to this role, Trilling oversaw the Symantec AntiVirus Research Center, a worldwide team responsible for adding new anti-virus technologies to Symantec's complete range of award-winning Norton AntiVirus products. He has published many technical papers and appears regularly on national television discussing security-related issues. Trilling has a bachelor of science degree from Yale University and a master of science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
