Symantec Executive Joins Leading Panel Discussion On Cybercrime At 13th Annual Software Development Conference

CUPERTINO, Calif. -October 30, 2000 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq:SYMC), a world leader in Internet security, today announced Ron Moritz, senior vice president and chief technical officer at Symantec has been invited to participate as a panel speaker at the Software Development Conference & Expo (SD 2000), to be held Oct. 29 - Nov. 2, at the Washington Convention Center in Washington D.C. The panel session featuring Moritz is titled, "Security and Commerce on the Tangled Web," and is scheduled from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31. The session will focus on challenging issues computer security experts face and the programs they implement to protect their network infrastructures.

"Electronic commerce crimes, Web site vandalism, and denial-of-service attacks are a nemesis for enterprise organizations and their technical staff," Moritz said. "Symantec is dedicated to assisting governments and corporations to increase their awareness of threats against the security of online commerce and the safety of private information".

Software Development Conference & Expo gives attendees access to the largest gathering of software development experts in one place, with an impressive list of well-known technology leaders and industry gurus from all corners of the development world. In addition to the Expo, experts speak at keynote presentations and tech information-packed courses and participate in a variety of panel discussions about the latest trends in programming languages, enterprise development, platform tools and Internet tools and technologies.

Moritz is an Internet security expert with more than 16 years in the industry. He is a member of the U.S. delegation to the G-8 conference on safety and security in cyberspace and is a member of the binational information technology panel of U.S. - Israel Science and Technology Commission. He currently chairs the Common Content Inspection API interoperability standardization initiative for the security industry. He has published and presented numerous papers on a variety of security topics, including mobile code security, Web browser security, security and electronic commerce, and computer ethics and privacy. The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium has certified Moritz as an information systems security professional.
