Norton Personal Firewall Selected By Earthlink To Secure DSL Connections For Macintosh Users

Leading ISP to Deliver Symantec's Mac Firewall Free of Charge to New and Existing DSL Customers

CUPERTINO, Calif. - Dec 19, 2000 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced that EarthLink (Nasdaq: ELNK), a leading broadband Internet Service Provider (ISP), has selected Norton Personal Firewall to protect its Macintosh DSL subscribers. EarthLink will deliver Norton Personal Firewall for Macintosh 1.0 free of charge to new and existing EarthLink DSL customers through redeemable electronic coupons e-mailed to Macintosh users after their DSL service is installed. EarthLink customers can then download Norton Personal Firewall from a co-branded Web site.

"We are pleased to provide EarthLink DSL subscribers the most effective software for securing their Macintosh systems," said Dana Siebert, executive vice president of Symantec's Service Provider Solutions Division. "Symantec has long been recognized as the premier Macintosh utility company, and our Norton Personal Firewall solution features the sophisticated technology and intuitive interface that Macintosh users demand to protect their always-on connections."

"EarthLink has always been deeply committed to the Macintosh, so when we decided to offer our DSL members free firewall software, there was no question that a Mac version had to be available as well," said Mike Lunsford. "EarthLink already offers Norton Personal Firewall to all PC-using DSL customers, and now our Mac-using members will be able to use it as well. They'll get the same peace of mind and protection from hackers and other malicious attacks that can threaten the security of their systems and data."

EarthLink DSL service is currently offered in more than 70 major metropolitan markets across the country through 2,650 local Central Offices (COs). Norton Personal Firewall for Macintosh 1.0 is an easy-to-use Internet security solution that will protect EarthLink DSL subscribers from hackers and security breaches.

With Norton Personal Firewall, users can block connections to their Macintosh systems, preventing hackers from gaining access to important files, passwords, banking numbers, and other confidential data. In addition, EarthLink DSL subscribers can configure which applications are allowed to access their Macintosh systems through the Internet and are notified when an unauthorized program or user attempts to access their system.

EarthLink DSL customers that have already downloaded EarthLink's previous Macintosh firewall solution, Open Door DoorStop, are not eligible to download Norton Personal Firewall. However, they will receive a $30 rebate if they upgrade to Norton Personal Firewall 1.0.M
