Symantec Security Experts to Speak at RSA Conference 2001

CUPERTINO, Calif. - April 9, 2001 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), a world leader in Internet security, today announced that Tim Mather, Symantec's director of information security, and Lawrence Dietz, Symantec's director of market intelligence, will both speak at RSA Conference 2001 to be held April 8-12, 2001, in San Francisco.

Mather's presentation -- "Peer-to-Peer: Impact on Security" -- will focus on peer-to-peer applications that have the potential to empower users and change the current client/server paradigm. Mather will outline the balance between preserving security while taking advantage of peer-to-peer networking. His presentation is scheduled for Thursday, April 12, 2001, at 10:00 a.m. PDT. As director of Information Security, Mather is responsible for the development and implementation of information systems security policies and procedures. Mather is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).

Dietz will focus on privacy in his presentation, "Privacy Rules, Regulations and Realities." Public concern for the protection of personal and trusted information is driving the development of legal regulation all around the world. Dietz will outline the new legislation and specifically compare the U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 with the U.K. Data Protection Act of 1998. His presentation is scheduled for Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at 11:00 a.m. PDT. Dietz has more than 30 years military and information security experience. He is responsible for market analysis and competitive assessments for Symantec.
