Symantec's New Norton Ghost 2002 Delivers Powerful Tools for
System Upgrading and System Protection
Norton Ghost 2002 Offers Cloning and Imaging Support for Windows XP
CUPERTINO, Calif. - Sept. 5, 2001 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced Norton Ghost 2002, a fast and flexible program designed to provide PC users and small businesses the ability to quickly set-up a new PC and backup existing hard drives to protect them from disasters. Based on the industry-leading Symantec Ghost Corporate Edition, Norton Ghost 2002 now provides users with faster performance and functionality similar to that used by IT administrators around the world. Norton Ghost 2002 is Windows XP Logo Certified, providing home PC users and small businesses with an excellent solution for Windows XP migration tasks, such as setting up a new PC and taking a snapshot of a clean PC before any undesired changes have been made.
Norton Ghost 2002 offers customers the ability to quickly and easily set up a new PC as well as create a backup copy of their existing PC's hard disk, by providing faster performance and improved USB and LPT support. In addition, Norton Ghost 2002 extends its robust imaging capabilities to the industry's latest operating systems by offering cloning support for Windows 3.x/95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP and Linux.
"Home PC users and small businesses are now offered disk cloning capability that provides faster speed, more functionality and better protection as they upgrade to a new PC or backup their hard disks to protect themselves from disasters," said Joe Wang, vice president, Symantec Enterprise Administration. "Norton Ghost 2002 allows individuals and small businesses to backup their existing PCs and to rapidly set-up new PCs by providing the same powerful software utility tools that are used and preferred by IT managers in today's enterprise computing environments."
Symantec's Norton Ghost 2002 enables users to efficiently create disk images and store them on hard disk drives, multiple types of media and CD-R/RW drives. The product can quickly and easily clone an existing hard drive or partition to a new drive. In the event of a disaster, users are able to easily restore the hard disk on their PC to its original condition, before the unwanted changes were made.
For increased flexibility, Norton Ghost 2002 supports Linux EXT2, as well as Microsoft FAT and NTFS file systems. Norton Ghost offers cloning capabilities for an entire hard drive or specified partitions while automatically determining the partition sizes for the destination drive. Users are also provided with the ability to manipulate disk images, allowing them to easily restore individual files, directories, or entire drives from a Ghost image.
Norton Ghost 2002 also provides the ability to back-up hard disk drives by writing disk images directly to many popular CD-R/RW drives, as well as a variety of the most popular removable magnetic media, including ZIP, JAZ, SuperDisk and more. This functionality offers users the tools needed to conduct weekly back-ups of their data and perform specific events, such as migrating to a new operating system.
