Symantec Internet Security Experts to Speak at 28th Annual Computer Security Conference and Exhibition
CUPERTINO, Calif. - Oct. 29, 2001- Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), a world leader in Internet security, today announced that three Symantec Internet security experts will speak at this year's annual Computer Security Conference at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington D.C., Oct. 29-Oct. 31. Symantec will also be hosting an invitation-only breakfast in conjunction with the conference for Congressional staff members on Monday, Oct. 29 at 9 a.m.
Sarah Gordon, senior research fellow, will give two presentations on Monday, Oct. 29 as part of the conference's Current Affairs track -- "Virus Writers and Legislation" from 2 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. and "Cyber Terrorism and the Real World" from 4 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. The presentations will examine the impact of legislation on today's cyber security threats as well as how "cyber terrorism" is defined and how it fits in today's virtual community. Gordon is a senior research fellow at Symantec Security Response, one of the industry's largest dedicated team of security experts. As part of Symantec Security Response, Gordon helps direct the development of products that protect consumers, small businesses and medium- to large-sized enterprises from damaging computer virus and other malicious Internet threats.
Tim Mather, director of Information Security at Symantec, will deliver "Peer-To-Peer: How to Try and Secure Your Enterprise," which will discuss how to effectively deploy measures to secure peer-to-peer networks, such as instant messaging, in the work place. Mather's presentation is scheduled from 9:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31 as part of the conference's Product Specific track. At Symantec, Mather is responsible for the development and implementation of information systems security policies and procedures. Mather is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).
Lawrence Dietz, director of Market Intelligence at Symantec, will present, "A Survival Guide to ISP 17799," which will provide a practical guide to complying with the standard code of practice for information security management. Dietz is scheduled to speak from 9:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 29 as part of the conference's Current Affairs track. With more than 30 years military and information security experience, Dietz is responsible for market analysis and competitive assessments for Symantec.
The keynote address for the breakfast hosted by Symantec will feature Richard Power, editor of the Computer Security Institute and author of "Tangled Web." In addition, comments will be made by Symantec's Gail Hamilton, executive vice president of product delivery and response, as well as Dietz.
