IBM Chooses Symantec Intruder Alert to Help Protect Its Managed Security Services Customers
Symantec Intruder Alert Will Allow IBM To Provide Real-Time Host-Based Intrusion Detection
CUPERTINO, Calif. - Feb. 18, 2002 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) and IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced IBM's Managed Security Services will deploy Symantec Intruder Alert as its host-based intrusion detection solution to help secure IBM customer's e-business infrastructure. This new global service enhances IBM's ability to detect unauthorized access and take action in real-time to prevent customers from suffering the potential damage caused by unwanted intrusions. As part of the agreement, Symantec will provide IBM with service level agreements to react quickly to customer issues.
"Today's Internet security threats are becoming increasingly more complex and require a multi-tiered security plan," said Todd Gordon, general manager and vice president of IBM Global Services Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery division. "Symantec's Intruder Alert is a highly reliable, host-based solution for IBM's managed security services customers. The integration of Intruder Alert into IBM's 24x7 management services offering allows us to take immediate action against unauthorized system access."
"As the largest dedicated information security company in the world, Symantec brings exceptional security expertise and the highest quality intrusion detection solution to IBM's Managed Security Services customers," said Gary LaTulip, vice president of North American Strategic Sales at Symantec.
IBM will leverage Symantec Intruder Alert's capabilities to provide a powerful first line of defense in IBM's Web-hosting environment. IBM extends this secure infrastructure by using its own Tivoli Risk Manager to correlate and manage security information from a variety of security devices and technologies, including anti-virus, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems. The software enables the correlation of alerts, immediate attack response and proactive diagnosis and assessment of security across customers' environments.
Symantec Intruder Alert 3.6 is a host-based, real-time intrusion monitoring system that detects unauthorized activity and security breaches and responds automatically. If Intruder Alert detects a threat, it sounds an alarm or takes other countermeasures according to pre-established security policies in order to prevent information loss or theft. From a central console, administrators can create, update, and deploy policies and securely collect and archive audit logs for incident analysis, all while maintaining the availability and integrity of systems. As a complement to firewalls and other access controls, Intruder Alert enables the development of precautionary security policies that prevent expert hackers or authorized users with malicious intent from misusing systems, applications, and data.
