Symantec Launches Online Security Resource for Health Care, Financial Services and Public Sector Professionals
CUPERTINO, Calif. - June 9, 2003 -
Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq:SYMC), the world leader in Internet security,
today launched online resources dedicated to addressing the security
issues facing health care, banking, finance and insurance, and public
sector professionals. Designed to help these professionals get the
information they need to secure their network environments, Symantec's
new Web sites are a single source of industry-specific security information,
including details on security best practices, industry regulations,
and product and service news.
Every industry relies on specific technologies and applications to provide the best service to their customers. In addition, governments around the world are imposing various regulations on specific industries to ensure a consistent treatment of customer information. With the addition of these industry-specific Web sites, Symantec is focused on helping health care organizations, banks, other financial institutions and government organizations understand the issues affecting their industries and the solutions required to ensure the integrity and confidentiality of their systems and their customers' information.
- Health care organizations are using new technologies to store and transmit patient medical records online. Proper security measures must be implemented as new technologies are adopted to ensure the privacy of this patient information and compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Banking, finance and insurance organizations process millions of transactions a day, using multiple applications across multiple systems. A company's success in this area depends on the integrity of these applications and transactions.
- Public sector organizations, including federal, state and local governments and academic institutions, provide the backbone of any country. Protection of that backbone infrastructure is a matter of national security.
Each site includes industry-specific case studies, white papers and webcasts, along with industry articles and information on Symantec security solutions. In addition each site includes a regulatory section with information about regulations such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Graham-Leach Bliley Act (GLBA). These regulatory resource centers include details on the acts and links to industry resources including regulation background information and compliance guidelines.
