Symantec CEO to Participate on Federal Trade Commission Panel
Workshop Panel To Discuss Ramifications For Collection and Use of Personal Information
CUPERTINO, Calif. – June 17, 2003 - Symantec (Nasdaq:SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced that John W. Thompson, Symantec chairman and CEO, will participate on a panel discussion at a workshop hosted by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) entitled "Information Flows: The Costs and Benefits to Consumers and Businesses of The Collection and Use of Consumer Information," on Wednesday, June 18, from 8:30 – 10 a.m. EDT at the FTC Satellite Building in Washington, D.C.
Thompson's remarks will focus on Symantec's views about the collection and use of customer information for business purposes, including the safeguards Symantec follows for the protection of the content and the privacy of such information.
The workshop will examine how and why businesses collect, analyze, and use certain consumer information to facilitate commercial transactions with consumers. The associated costs and benefits to consumers and businesses of such practices will also be discussed.
The workshop is open to the public and attendance is free of charge. Pre-registration is not required. The workshop will be transcribed and placed on the public record. The Satellite Building is located at 601 New Jersey Avenue in Washington, D.C.
