Symantec Announces HP as Newest Technology Partner Program Member

CUPERTINO, Calif. - June 18, 2003 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, announced today that HP has joined the Symantec Technology Partner Program with its HP OpenView management software. HP's participation in the program will focus on joint marketing activities around the Smart Plug-in being designed to integrate the Symantec Enterprise Security Architecture with HP OpenView Operations. Symantec's integration effort is expected to allow HP OpenView customers to view actionable security incident alerts within their network infrastructure management console.

Symantec has earlier joined the HP OpenView Solution Alliance Program as a Solution level Partner and will be demonstrating an early preview of this integration at the HP Software Forum 2003, which is being held in Chicago on June 16 - 20, 2003.

"Symantec Enterprise Security Architecture provides a framework for the Symantec Security Management System, Symantec security solutions and third-party products to correlate and aggregate key security incident information," said Gail Hamilton, executive vice president, Symantec. "Customers utilizing HP OpenView with Symantec Enterprise Security Architecture-based security solutions will be able to greatly simplify the management of their security and network infrastructure while reducing costs".

"The integration of Symantec Enterprise Security Architecture with HP OpenView Operations will be a tremendous benefit for our joint customers by seamlessly providing greater insight into their network security," said Todd DeLaughter, vice president and general manager, HP OpenView Business Unit. "HP is pleased to join the Symantec Technology Partner Program and takes pride in providing our customers with solutions of this kind that create greater efficiencies for the effective application of our industry-leading HP OpenView solutions."

HP OpenView management software allows customers to manage their infrastructure from a single console rather than a collection of individual devices and to visualize their infrastructure as a variety of services, enabling immediate root cause analysis of potential problems. The first release of integration is being designed to relay security incident alerts, determined from security products designed on or integrated with Symantec Enterprise Security Architecture, into HP OpenView Operations. These solutions include: Symantec Client Security, Symantec Gateway Security, Symantec Host IDS, Symantec Vulnerability Assessment, Symantec Incident Manager and Symantec Event Managers for AntiVirus, Firewall and Intrusion Detection. Additionally Symantec Event Collectors for third-party products include: Symantec Event Collector for Network Associates ePO and VirusScan, Symantec Event Collector for Trend Micro Gateway and Groupware, Symantec Event Collector for Check Point VPN-1/Firewall-1, and Symantec Event Collector for ISS RealSecure.
