Symantec Security Experts to Speak at E-Gov Information Assurance Conference

CUPERTINO, Calif. - Sept. 15, 2003 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced that Brian J. Finan, Symantec's director of strategic programs and homeland security, and Grant Geyer, Symantec's senior director of managed security services operations, will participate in panel discussions at the E-Gov Information Assurance Conference in Washington, D.C., Sept. 15-17.

Finan will participate in a panel titled "Are your networks secure?" examining key requirements for secure government IT infrastructures, including policies, technologies and effective management capabilities. The panel will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 17, from 9:45 a.m. - 11 a.m. at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C.

Geyer will participate in a panel titled "Vigilant Enterprise Monitoring." Panelists will discuss methods for identifying and responding to network attacks in real-time and agency criteria for selecting tools and services, given varying mission roles and budgets. The panel will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 17, from 2:45 p.m. - 4 p.m. at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C.

In its fourth year, the E-Gov Information Assurance Conference brings together professionals from academia, government and industry to focus on information assurance technologies and strategies for public sector organizations.

Finan is a retired U.S. Army intelligence officer and an authority on information assurance strategies and technologies in the public sector. In his current position, he leads Symantec's support of large federal government IT programs and numerous state security initiatives. Prior to joining Symantec, Finan held senior executive roles at technology firms catering to security demands of the Defense Department, law enforcement and intelligence communities.

Geyer is an expert on information assurance operations for public and private sector organizations. In his current position, he manages technology, procedures and personnel inside Symantec's North American security operations center (SOC) facilities monitoring hundreds of client networks around the globe. Prior to joining Symantec, Geyer served as vice president, business development for Riptech, a pioneer in delivering managed security services. A retired U.S. Army officer, his assignments included serving as network operations center manager for the U.S. Army Intelligence Center.
