Symantec Security Expert to Participate in Congressional Subcommittee Hearing on Computer Viruses
CUPERTINO, Calif. - Nov. 5, 2003 -
Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), a world leader in Internet security,
today announced that Art Wong, vice president of Symantec Security
Response, will participate in a hearing for the United States House
of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce’s Subcommittee
on Telecommunications and the Internet. The hearing, entitled “Computer
Viruses: the Disease, the Detection, and the Prescription for Protection,”
is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, in room 2123 of the Rayburn
House Office Building in Washington, D.C.
Wong’s remarks for the committee will focus on the evolving nature of today’s cyber threats, based on the latest Symantec Internet Threat Security Report released in October of this year. In addition, Wong will discuss the need for increased awareness and education about the proper measures for securing computers against cyber attacks in the work place and at home.
Wong is responsible for directing the vision, strategy and execution of Symantec’s Security Response division and is one of the world’s foremost experts on global computer threat management. He is often sought after by the media for his expertise in the security industry and is a frequent speaker at security events. Before joining Symantec, Wong founded SecurityFocus in 1999, the leading Internet security threat management company, and was its chief executive officer until Symantec acquired it in 2002.
