Norton Internet Security, Norton AntiVirus, and Norton Personal Firewall Win 'Triple Crown' in Personal Security Software
CUPERTINO, Calif. - Nov. 24, 2003 -
Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced that Norton Internet Security 2004, Norton AntiVirus 2004, and Norton Personal Firewall 2004 earned perfect five-star ratings to be named PC Magazine Editors' Choice Award winners. According to the Nov. 25, 2003 issue of PC Magazine, Symantec products surpassed the competition in ease-of-use, protection, and integration.
"Symantec's Norton brand gets the triple crown in personal security software this time around," editors wrote. "In suites, there was really no doubt about it: Norton Internet Security 2004 beats the other two contenders on just about every level. … In the antivirus arena, Norton AntiVirus surpasses McAfee VirusScan 8.0 for its simpler and more thorough setup procedure, the ability to report on your virus infection history, and a stronger record on independent virus lab testing. … Few programs successfully balance the needs of beginners and experts, but Symantec's Norton Personal Firewall 2004 gets it exactly right."
Norton Internet Security is an easy-to-use and comprehensive security and privacy suite for home and small office PC users, featuring Symantec's best-of-breed antivirus, firewall, intrusion detection, privacy protection, spam filtering, and content filtering solutions in a single tightly integrated suite. Norton AntiVirus is the world's most trusted antivirus solution, protecting users against viruses, worms, and Trojan horses as well as non-virus security hazards such as spyware. Norton Personal Firewall provides a full firewall, comprehensive privacy protection, program control, ad blocking, and a comprehensive intrusion detection system in one easy-to-use product.
"It is an honor to see our personal security software continue to earn Editors' Choice Awards from reputable, objective, and independent technology resources such as PC Magazine," said Matthew Moynahan, vice president of Product Management, Client and Host Security, at Symantec. "With this recognition, Symantec acknowledges and embraces its ongoing responsibility of providing consumers and corporations the most effective and innovative security solutions possible to protect their online investments."
PC Magazine editors singled out several unique components and features of Norton Internet Security 2004, including its powerful and configurable firewall, intuitive and accurate antispam component, flexible and reliable parental control capabilities, and tight integration. "The whole package works smoothly together, letting you control all features from an uncluttered and well-organized control center. … With the best integration of its components and the best security components themselves, Norton Internet Security 2004 is the suite you should buy. It's our Editors' Choice by a wide margin," they commented.
New features and enhancements kept Norton AntiVirus 2004 at the top of PC Magazine's list of recommended products. Editors commented on its new pre-installation capabilities, spyware and adware detection, improved default settings, and automatic updating. Since 1996, Norton AntiVirus has been named PC Magazine Editors' Choice, and since early 2000, it has earned consecutive VB100% awards from Virus Bulletin for its virus detection. "With Norton AntiVirus 2004, Symantec adds new touches to a familiar face, keeping Norton AntiVirus atop our A-list," editors wrote. "Norton bests McAfee in reporting on your virus history and in independent virus labs testing results. … With better defaults and easy updates, Norton AntiVirus once again gets our Editors' Choice nod."
Norton Personal Firewall 2004 earned the Editors' Choice designation based on its outstanding ease-of-use and protection, according to editors. From its "effortless" installation and product activation to enhancements for laptop users, effective privacy control and intrusion detection, hands-free updating, and easily customizable ad- and pop-up blocking, Norton Personal Firewall scored perfect marks. "The software offers thorough and easy-to-use protection out of the box and easy-to-manage fine-tuning of security and privacy settings," editors concluded.
