Owens Leaves Symantec Board

CUPERTINO, Calif. - May 10, 2004 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced the resignation of William A. Owens from the Symantec board of directors, effective immediately.

Owens was appointed to Symantec’s board in March 2000. He is leaving Symantec's board of directors to concentrate on his new role as chief executive officer of Nortel Networks. His departure leaves eight members on Symantec’s board.

"Bill Owens has been a significant contributor to our progress over the last four years,” said John W. Thompson, Symantec chairman and CEO. “His knowledge of and insight into government markets around the world is tremendous. He will be missed.”
