Symantec Offers Webcast on Creating and Managing a World-Class Information Security Organization
CUPERTINO, Calif. - June 3, 2004 -
Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in information security,
today announced their Executive Webcast series titled "How to Create
and Manage a World-Class Information Security Organization." This
three part series will discuss the current security climate and how
to effectively establish a security program. The first Webcast in
the series, "Getting Started," will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2004,

The Webcast, led by a panel of industry visionaries, will help attendees evaluate their information security management practices, and understand the parts of their existing processes that may need more attention. This webcast will be of particular interest to security managers responsible for strategic security decisions, policy setting, and learning about how security issues affect business. Presenters will include:
- Linda McCarthy, executive security advisor, Symantec
- Corey King, senior director of product marketing, Symantec
- Madhavan Vasudevan, director of product management, Sand Hill Group
- Pete van de Gohm, director of NAIS security, Bayer Corporate & Business Services, LLC
"Enterprise security has elevated to the top priority list at major corporations and public sector companies," said McCarthy. "The need for developing a strong, independent information security group within an organization has never been stronger."
As executive security advisor for the Office of the CTO, McCarthy develops business opportunities for Symantec. Before joining Symantec, McCarthy served as vice president of systems engineering at Recourse Technologies and also held the positions of senior vice president and chief knowledge officer for NETSEC. In addition, she founded Network Defense, a security research and consulting company, and held several management positions at Sun Microsystems.
As senior director of product marketing for Symantec, King leads development and implementation of go-to-market strategies for Symantec's enterprise security services. King has 18 years experience working with technical and operational security for large organizations, and has managed research and development, operations, consulting services, software development, sales, and technical support organizations for both government agencies and commercial companies.
Vasudevan has directed product management and marketing for two emerging technology firms: Jarna, an enterprise wireless middleware company, and Gigabeat, a personalization startup specializing in digital-media delivery. He also held management, research, and manufacturing positions in the biotechnology and food industries in both the United States and abroad. He holds a Ph.D. in engineering from Rutgers University.
Van de Gohm oversees the North American region for Bayer Corporate & Business Services, LLC - part of the global Bayer Group. He brings almost 30 years of experience establishing multi-disciplined protection infrastructures and creating new risk management strategies in the public and private sectors. He is widely known for creating a leading-edge information asset protection infrastructure at Enron Energy Services, LLC and for his innovative security awareness programs while serving in the U.S. Air Force.
Part two, "Best Practices," and part three, "Metrics to Help Manage Performance," in this series will be announced at a later date.
