Symantec Offers Webcast on Managing SCADA Systems Security
AREVA T&D Security Expert to Co-Present on Overcoming Challenges
CUPERTINO, Calif. - June 23, 2004 -
Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the global leader in information security,
today announced a Webcast for electric power organizations aimed at
addressing the challenges associated with securing process control
systems and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems.
The Webcast titled, "SCADA Systems Cyber Security Challenges, Best
Practices, and Measures," will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2004,
at 8 a.m. PDT. Attendees can register at http://enterprisesecurity.symantec.com/content/webcastinfo.cfm?webcastid=110.
The rapid increase of information sharing and deregulation have caused once isolated process control and SCADA systems to converge with corporate networks that are, in turn, connected to customers, suppliers, and other third parties. Increased connectivity has created greater vulnerability to cyber attacks, introducing new challenges for maintaining availability and reliability of critical systems. The key component in addressing these challenges and enabling a high level of reliability and availability is deployment of cyber security measures. However, due to specific requirements in process control environments, such as customer protocols and applications, it is often risky to deploy untested and un-validated security measures. This Webcast will cover solutions to challenges power and energy companies face in an environment of emerging information security standards and regulations.
"Among the challenges electric power companies face is the ability to rely on security products and services that are untested in SCADA environments," said Gary Sevounts, director of industry solutions for Symantec. "In this forum, we will discuss, among other things, how to address the challenge not only to implement appropriate security measures but specifically what strategies to focus on in order to achieve effective levels of cyber security in a cost-sensitive environment."
This Webcast will be of particular interest to CIOs, CISOs, IT and cyber security directors and managers of the power and energy industries who want to learn about security best practices in Process Control Center and SCADA environments. It is also of interest to COOs and operations managers of power and energy companies interested in the application to their respective environments.
