Symantec To Address Effective Risk Management At FIAC
CUPERTINO, Calif. – Oct. 25, 2004 -
Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the global leader in information security, today announced that John McCumber, Symantec's public sector strategic program manager, will detail planning and management strategies for identifying and mitigating risks across large enterprise information systems at the Federal Information Assurance Conference (FIAC). McCumber's presentation, titled "Developing an Effective Risk Management Program," will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 26, from 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. at the University of Maryland's Inn and Conference Center in Adelphi, Md.
McCumber will describe recent trends in vulnerability and network attack data while offering recommendations on how government agencies can align key IT support functions to proactively ensure the security and availability of their IT assets.
The Federal Information Assurance Conference brings together a variety of experts and technology resources from government, industry, and academia. The conference showcases key information assurance programs and services being offered by the federal government, important information assurance technologies being produced by industry, and significant security policies, planning and training necessary for their implementation.
McCumber is an information security expert and a frequent presenter at technology conferences focused on the security requirements of public sector organizations. At Symantec, he works closely with military and civilian federal agencies implementing comprehensive information security programs. A retired U.S. Air Force officer, McCumber lectures on information assurance subjects at George Washington University. His most recent book, "Assessing and Managing Security Risks in IT Systems: A Structured Methodology," was recently released by Auerbach Publications.
