ON Technology Continues Market Momentum in Retail Sector with Significant New Customer Wins

Leading Retailers Including TJX Companies and Discount Tire Select ON iCommand to Increase Reliability and Security of Critical Retail Infrastructure

NRF Annual Convention and Expo, New York (Jan. 13, 2004) – ON Technology (NASDAQ:ONTC), a leading provider of enterprise infrastructure management solutions, today announced that five leading retailers – TJX Companies, Inc., Discount Tire Company, VANS, Hom Furniture, and La Fragua – recently purchased ON iCommand to provide centralized management of their business-critical retail IT infrastructures.

These retailers join a growing list of retailers – including The Home Depot, Staples, PETCO, OfficeMax, and AutoNation – who are currently leveraging ON’s open and scalable solution to increase their reliability, security, operational efficiency, and responsiveness. ON provides a single unified solution for managing the full lifecycle of all retail devices, including Point-of-Sale (POS) and self-checkout systems as well as wireless handheld devices, Internet kiosks, store servers, and store manager workstations.

By deploying all software updates over-the-wire – including security patches and retail application updates – and providing remote unattended disaster recovery for corrupted or misconfigured store systems, ON iCommand virtually eliminates the need to dispatch IT personnel to remote stores to provision new systems and upgrade or repair existing systems. Retailers have found that this unique combination of centralized management capabilities significantly reduces operational costs while maximizing uptime, which in turn leads to higher customer satisfaction.

The new retail customers, which purchased ON iCommand during the company’s fourth quarter of 2003, include:

  • TJX Companies, Inc. is the leading off-price retailer of apparel and home fashions in the U.S. and worldwide. The Company operates 749 T.J. Maxx, 674 Marshalls, 182 HomeGoods, 99 A.J. Wright, and 31 Bob’s stores in the United States. In Canada, the Company operates 160 Winners and 25 HomeSense stores, and in Europe, 147 T.K. Maxx stores.
  • Discount Tire Co. is the largest independent tire dealer in the United States with 526 retail stores. Discount Tire also sells tires online through Discount Tire Direct and through a number of West Coast stores that operate as America’s Tire Co.
  • HOM Furniture is a major upper Midwestern furniture retailer with 12 retail stores offering rugs, wood furniture and upholstered products.
  • VANS Inc. is a leading branded lifestyle company for the youth market. The company is a manufacturer of footwear and apparel for casual wear and outdoor activities, whose products are sold in the United States and Europe through 157 company owned stores and factory outlets, as well as a network of retailers.
  • La Fragua is a major food retailer in Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras.

“ON Technology comes to NRF on the heels of another terrific year serving the demanding IT needs of the retail industry and adding leading retailers to the ON family,” said Robert L. Doretti, chairman, president and CEO of ON Technology. “Our retail customers tell us that our technology delivers important strategic and tactical benefits to retailers – in an open, scalable and extensible solution that integrates easily with their existing software and network infrastructures, leading to both rapid implementation and a quick ROI.”

ON Technology will be demonstrating its ON iCommand solution in the booth of its premiere partner, Fujitsu, at the National Retail Federation’s Annual Convention and Expo, January 11-14, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York (Booth #1335). ON Technology will be showing live demonstrations of its ability to manage remote POS devices from a Fujitsu Team PoS 2000 TeamPad handheld device.
