Cobb EMC Replaces Existing
Competitive Product with
ON Technology Solution to Accelerate Windows 2000
Migration and Manage Enterprise PC Infrastructure
ON Command CCM® provides more
reliable solution and enhanced IT efficiency
MA (January 17, 2002) - ON Technology (NASDAQ:
ONTC), a leading provider of enterprise infrastructure
management solutions, today announced that Cobb Electric
Membership Corporation (EMC) has selected and begun
implementing ON Command CCM® to manage its network
of PCs distributed across seven buildings in its headquarters
facility. Cobb EMC is based in fast-growing Cobb County,
GA, a suburb of Atlanta, and is the second largest retail
supplier of electricity in Georgia. ON Command CCM will
be used to perform automated, unattended installations
of Microsoft ® Windows 2000®, along with ongoing
management and updates of mission-critical applications.
Cobb EMC also purchased ON Command
Remote for use by Help Desk personnel in rapidly diagnosing
and correcting end-user software problems, as well as
Centennial Discovery for network-based license compliance
and asset management of all of the company's installed
hardware and software. Joe Gwozdzik, Director of LAN/WAN
Services at Cobb EMC, said ON Technology's solution
will help speed up his company's migration to Windows
2000 and will make his own personnel much more productive.
"With the ON Technology solution,
what once took hours can now be accomplished in a few
minutes, which is critical because we're now managing
a larger and growing number of users with a fixed number
of IT personnel, " Gwozdzik said. "Thanks
to ON's reliability and robust support for industry
standards such as Intel's Pre-boot eXecution Environment
(PXE), our IT personnel are now much more productive
because they can remotely wake-up remote PCs and deploy
Windows 2000 to them without having to physically visit
each one. We also replaced our previous static 'snapshot'
distribution tool with ON Command CCM because ON's solution
is much more reliable and flexible. ON's intelligent
agent technology is unique in ensuring that software
installations dynamically adapt to the particular hardware
and software configuration of each target machine --
which is essential in a heterogeneous enterprise environment
such as ours."
Gwozdzik added that Cobb EMC's
migration to Windows 2000 has been "slowed dramatically"
by the inability of its previous tool to handle complex
infrastructure issues such as network security. "ON's
advanced agent technology completely addresses all of
these issues, allowing us to rapidly complete our Windows
2000 migration and install mission-critical applications
without compromising network security," Gwozdzik
"ON Technology's success at
Cobb EMC demonstrates once again that ON Command CCM
offers unique solutions for even the most complex and
heterogeneous organizations," said Robert L. Doretti,
Chairman, President, and CEO at ON Technology.
"IT organizations are looking
for open, flexible, and robust solutions that integrate
easily into their existing environments," Doretti
said. "Our continuing investment in R&D and
commitment to standards ensures we will continue to
deliver innovative infrastructure management solutions
that help our customers save money while increasing
service quality and end-user satisfaction."
