Technology Announces Immediate Availability of ON
Command CCM V5.4
Canon Switzerland Upgrades Its Enterprise Computing
Infrastructure to Windows XP within Four Months Using
Newest Version of ON Command CCM
Waltham, Mass.
(February 25, 2003) - ON Technology (NASDAQ:ONTC),
a leading provider of enterprise infrastructure management
solutions, announced the immediate availability of ON
Command CCM V5.4, which provides enhanced security features
for administering geographically distributed IT environments.
The Company also announced that Canon Switzerland, a
subsidiary of Canon Inc, is the first to use the advanced
features of ON Command CCM V5.4 to upgrade all of its
desktop and laptop computers to Microsoft Windows®
XP in 12 distributed locations across the country. Leveraging
the new security features of ON Command CCM V5.4, Canon
accomplished its Windows XP deployment in less than
four months.
The company began beta testing
ON Command CCM V5.4 in October 2002. Impressed with
its new features and stability, Canon decided to use
the pre-release version to roll-out Windows XP in its
production environment, starting in November 2002, in
order to be fully prepared for the parent company’s
deployment of Microsoft Active Directory throughout
its European offices in early 2003. ON Technology’s
unique native installation technology was also a key
factor in reliably deploying Windows XP, along with
over 80 software applications, across six different
hardware configurations within the Canon environment.
Canon had used a prior version of ON Command CCM to
migrate successfully from Windows NT with Office 97
to Windows 2000 with Office 2000, as well as to provide
ongoing management for all of its software applications
and security patches.
“Our beta test of ON Command
CCM V5.4 ran so well, we decided to use it for day-to-day
operations,” said Markus Muller-Fehrenbach, Manager
of ITC IC Network Services. “Before ON Command
CCM, it took nine hours to restore or rebuild a PC.
Now, it’s a wonderful feeling for our IT administrators
to be able to walk away after initiating the installation,
letting CCM automate the entire process.”
“We are pleased that Canon
moved forward with ON Command CCM V5.4 for its enterprise-wide
roll-out of Windows XP,” said Robert Doretti,
ON Technology President, Chairman and CEO. “Simply
put, the fact that their deployment was completed within
four months, and prior to its actual release date, is
a further testament to the quality of our software engineers
and our technology. Our commitment to building the best
solutions with innovative technology continues to help
our customers increase their productivity and save them
time and money.”
About
ON Command CCM V5.4
ON Command CCM V5.4, which is currently shipping, builds
upon the open, standards-based and highly scalable architecture
provided by ON Command CCM V5.0, which was first released
in the fourth quarter of 2001. ON Command CCM V5.4 offers
a number of enhancements over previous versions, including
the ability to configure security access and permissions
for multiple types of IT administrators, each with varying
levels of control over specific users and groups. This
makes it ideally suited for highly distributed organizations
with varying levels of IT personnel, including first-level
Help Desk staff with limited administrative rights,
local administrators at remote sites, and “super-user”
administrators at headquarters locations.
Additional features of Version
5.4 include the ability to easily perform complex SQL
queries from the Command Center console (such as “Show
me all managed clients with Windows XP and Office 2000
but not Internet Explorer 6”), as well as the
ability to search the client database for specific text
strings using wildcards (“Show me all managed
clients that are named A*”). A new HTML Information
Display also allows Help-style information about software
packages and their configurable parameters to be displayed
in the administrative console.
