Volvo
Successfully Implements ON Technology Solution to
Manage 4,500 PCs; Achieves Strong ROI with Initial
Deployment Project
Leading Global Manufacturer Leverages ON Technology
Solution to Roll-Out Windows 2000 and Provide Ongoing Management for Mission-Critical
Applications
Waltham,
Mass. (February 26, 2003) - ON Technology (Nasdaq:ONTC),
a leading provider of enterprise infrastructure management
solutions, today announced that The Volvo Group has
successfully implemented ON Technology’s advanced
solution to automate its Windows 2000 deployment and
provide ongoing management for 4,500 PCs and mission-critical
applications in multiple European locations. The company
has already realized cost savings that exceed the initial
cost of its ON Technology software purchase, thereby
realizing a rapid ROI in its very first deployment project.
According to a recent article in
the European trade press, Volvo is saving money because
IT administrators are no longer required to spend hours
installing Windows 2000. “For us, it is about
reducing costs and lead time every time something happens
to a PC and everything needs to be reinstalled,”
said Richard Karlsson, manager of PC LANs at Volvo IT.
Volvo is using the ON Technology
solution to remotely install and configure operating
systems, applications, and user settings such as printers
and drivers. Additional cost savings are realized by
using ON Command CCM to provide ongoing management for
mission-critical applications such as Oracle, SAP, and
IBM-CATIA, deploy vital updates such as security patches,
and automatically rebuild corrupted PCs.
ON Chairman & CEO Robert L.
Doretti said: “Volvo IT operates one of the largest
Novell networks in Europe, and is known for its professional
expertise and commitment to providing the highest levels
of support for its internal and external customers.
Their experience demonstrates that our solutions provide
the fastest return on investment in the industry.”
ON’s open architecture has
also made it easy for Volvo to integrate the ON solution
with its existing IT environment in order to shorten
time to implementation. For example, Volvo has successfully
integrated ON Command CCM with its directory services
infrastructure and Oracle databases in order to incorporate
policy information about end-users and their configurations.
Unlike conventional management
solutions, ON Command CCM is the only enterprise-class
system that offers end-to-end lifecycle management,
including unattended operating system deployments and
one-click disaster recovery. In addition, unlike imaging
or cloning tools, ON Technology’s unique native
installation technology further reduces support costs
by dynamically adapting each OS installation to specific
end-user configurations, eliminating the need to maintain
tens or hundreds of individual static images for each
hardware platform and configuration.
