Deployment Enters new smart handheld market
expected to grow Waltham, MA, March 7, 2000 -- ON Technology Corporation (NASDAQ: ONTC), a leading provider of advanced solutions for managing software across corporate networks and the Internet, today announced ON PDA Manager™ for the Palm Platform, a solution that extends the benefits of enterprise management to information appliances manufactured by Palm, Inc. (NASDAQ: PALM) and its licensees. ON PDA Manager automatically deploys Palm applications to multiple PCs and companion Palm devices from centralized servers, without requiring end-user involvement. Palm Inc. currently dominates the companion market with a 68.4% share of the U.S. at the end of the first half of 1999, according to IDC, and over 5.5 million devices installed worldwide. "Mission-critical applications are beginning to be deployed to handheld devices (particularly Palm devices) in many organizations, and this trend will accelerate over the next 2-3 years. Yet few organizations have concrete strategies to make the deployment painless or transparent," says Jack Gold, Senior Program Director of META Group. "The success of wide-scale deployments of mission-critical applications will be contingent upon enabling an automated deployment process for both LAN-connected and mobile users, and providing continuous software management, set-up and update capability."
