ON Technology and Miramar Systems
Announce Strategic Alliance to Jointly Deliver Windows
2000 Migration Solutions
ON Technology launches MigrateEZ!
for W2K, a breakthrough Windows 2000 migration solution
that reduces costs while enhancing IT productivity
and end-user satisfaction
Waltham,
MA, and Santa Barbara, CA, March 27, 2001 –
ON Technology (NASDAQ: ONTC), a leading provider of
remote software delivery solutions, and Miramar Systems,
a leading provider of PC-to-PC system migration software,
today announced a strategic alliance encompassing joint
sales, marketing, professional services, and product
development. At the same time, ON Technology also launched
MigrateEZ!™ for W2K, a unique Windows 2000 migration
solution that leverages products from both companies
to significantly reduce the cost and time required to
implement enterprise-wide Windows 2000 migrations, while
simultaneously enhancing both IT productivity and end-user
satisfaction.
According to International Data
Corporation (IDC), Windows 2000 market share will skyrocket
to 73 percent by the end of 2001. Industry analysts
expect the majority of enterprises to migrate their
desktops to Windows 2000 during 2001 in order to take
advantage of the new operating system’s superior
performance, security and usability. The alliance enables
both companies to leverage each other’s sales
and delivery infrastructures to capitalize on this huge
business opportunity.
“Organizations are looking
for integrated solutions that minimize the pain and
cost associated with Windows 2000 migrations,”
said Ronni Colville, Gartner research director. “They’re
looking for unattended solutions to automate the entire
migration process from the comfort of a single management
console -- including deploying operating systems and
applications as well as saving and restoring personalized
settings and data files.”
MigrateEZ! for W2K allows IT organizations
to accomplish all PC migration tasks from a single console
without ever sending technicians to end-user PCs. It
consists of specialized software that integrates ON
Command CCM™ from ON Technology with Desktop DNA™
from Miramar Systems. Desktop DNA has been recently
described by ZDnet as the “industry leader”
in PC migration solutions, while ON Command CCM is a
best-of-breed solution for remote software management
that has consistently ranked in the “Visionary”
section of the Gartner “Magic Quadrant”
for software distribution.
With MigrateEZ! for W2K, ON Command
CCM, and Desktop DNA, IT organizations can now automatically:
- “Push” the Desktop
DNA agent and associated migration scripts to all
PCs over the network from the ON Command CCM console,
without visiting each PC;
- Save personalized settings --
such as bookmarks, data files and address books --
from each PC to the ON Command CCM management server;
- Deploy and configure Windows
2000 Professional with new applications such as Office
2000 to all PCs over the network, via the ON Command
CCM agent; and,
- Restore settings and data files
to each PC, thus enhancing end-user satisfaction and
increasing productivity by eliminating the need for
each individual to manually re-enter personalized
settings and data.
“Our alliance with Miramar will provide IT organizations
with significant operational benefits,” said Robert
L. Doretti, Chairman, President and CEO, ON Technology.
“Customers migrating to Windows 2000 are looking
for enhanced productivity and operational efficiency,
and together we can give IT managers the tools they
need to improve the productivity of the migration process
itself. We’re delighted to be working closely
with Miramar to deliver the benefits of our combined
solutions to customers.”
“The PC migration market
is exploding. There’s a lot of synergy between
our companies and we’re excited to be working
together,” said Neal Rabin, Chairman, CEO and
a founder of Miramar. “Customers are looking for
comprehensive, easy-to-use solutions and this alliance
will provide them with the powerful technology they
require. We’re also pleased to have the opportunity
of working through ON’s extensive European distribution
channels. The relationship between our company and ON
Technology will provide users with the global solutions
necessary in today’s competitive environment.”
The companies also announced that
ON Technology will participate in a Miramar Systems
half-day executive seminar discussing Windows 2000 migration
challenges on June 6th in San Jose, CA, featuring a
keynote speech by a senior representative from META
Group. The new MigrateEZ! for W2K offering will also
be demonstrated at the executive seminar. Other demonstrations
are planned for the ON Technology booth at Comdex/Windows
World (April 3-5 in Chicago) and Networld + Interop
(May 8-10 in Las Vegas). Miramar Systems will also be
hosting a booth at Comdex in Chicago.
