Covansys Selects ON Technology
Solution to Manage 3,000 Mobile & Remote Workstations
Worldwide & Automate Strategic Roll-Out of Windows
XP
Leading Consulting Services Company
Lowers IT Costs While Providing More Efficient and
Responsive Support for Mobile & Remote Professionals
in 23 Offices Worldwide
Waltham,
MA (May 2, 2002) - ON Technology Corporation
(Nasdaq:ONTC), a leading provider of enterprise infrastructure
management solutions, today announced that Covansys
Corporation (Nasdaq:CVNS), a global consulting and technology
services company, has selected ON Command CCM® to
provide centralized management for Covansys' 3,000 PCs
and laptops distributed across 23 offices worldwide.
Unlike conventional management
solutions that can only be used to deploy applications
and content, ON Command CCM is the only enterprise-class
system that offers end-to-end lifecycle management including
unattended operating system deployments and one-click
disaster recovery for remote workstations.
Covansys will also be using ON's
advanced management solution to automate its enterprise-wide
roll-out of Windows XP and efficiently deploy ongoing
updates for its business-critical Customer Relationship
Management (CRM) software.
"We selected ON Technology
to replace our previous software vendor after conducting
a rigorous evaluation of other competitive solutions,"
said John Talieri, CIO, Covansys. "ON Technology
offered the most comprehensive solution for efficiently
supporting a highly-distributed workforce of mobile
and remote professionals."
By instantaneously pushing operating
systems, applications, security patches, and updated
content such as price list information over Covansys'
existing network infrastructure - from centralized servers
- ON Command CCM eliminates the need for technicians
to travel to remote locations to install software or
rebuild malfunctioning systems. As a result, ON's innovative
solution significantly reduces IT costs, maximizes uptime,
and provides a powerful management infrastructure for
ongoing updates and Help Desk support that greatly enhances
end-user productivity and overall customer responsiveness.
Mr. Talieri added, "In addition
to ON Command CCM's unique ability to deploy operating
systems, we were especially impressed with its Web-enabled
self-service capabilities and file-level differencing
technology, which now enable our users to immediately
receive the latest business-critical software, even
when they're connected over low-speed dial-up networks."
ON Command CCM offers a Web-enabled
"self-service IT" or "e-Support"
module called ON iCommand™, which allows remote
end-users to download and install applications from
the convenience of their Web browsers, using automated
and corporate-approved installation procedures. With
iCommand, IT administrators create group policies that
determine which users and groups have access to specific
applications and content. iCommand then uses this information
to dynamically publish a list of approved software on
corporate Web servers, based on each end-user's identity,
which is automatically detected by the program.
"We are honored to have been
chosen by Covansys, a worldwide leader in IT consulting,
to provide them with this business-critical technology,"
said Robert L. Doretti, Chairman, President and CEO
of ON Technology. "We look forward to supporting
Covansys with world-class software and services that
provide rapid return on investment in support of their
strategic technology initiatives."
In addition to its purchase of
3,000 ON Command CCM licenses, Covansys also purchased
an equal number of ON Command Remote™ licenses
for Help Desk support as well as Centennial Discovery®
licenses for hardware/software inventory and software
license management.
