ON Technology and Wise Solutions
Announce Technology Alliance to Simplify and Accelerate
Enterprise-Wide Migrations to Windows 2000 & Windows
XP
Seamless product integration allows
IT administrators to rapidly create and deploy Windows
2000/XP applications that are compatible with the
Microsoft Windows Installer standard
Waltham,
MA and Plymouth, MI (May 23, 2002)- - ON Technology
Corporation (NASDAQ:ONTC) and Wise Solutions, Inc. today
announced a technology alliance and product integration
that will make migrations to Windows® 2000 and Windows
XP simpler, easier and faster for enterprise organizations.
The two companies have worked
closely together to address the needs of enterprises
that are developing next-generation Windows 2000/XP
applications. As a result, these customers can now use
Wise Package Studio to create applications that are
compatible with the new Microsoft Windows Installer
(MSI) standard for Windows 2000/XP, and then automatically
use the MSI Package Wizard from ON Technology to easily
configure them for unattended deployment from centralized
ON Command CCM® servers -- in a single automated
workflow.
The products are available immediately
from Wise and ON respectively. ON will also be distributing
an evaluation copy of Wise Package Studio in its CD
distribution kit for the ON MSI Package Wizard.
"Windows Installer brings
important reliability and manageability benefits to
enterprises, but it can also add complexity for IT administrators,"
said Ronni J. Colville, Research Director, Network and
Systems Management, Gartner Inc. "Enterprises are
looking for innovative technologies that make it easier
for IT administrators to leverage Windows Installer
technology and thereby reduce the time and cost of rolling
out Windows 2000 and XP."
Windows Installer is an important
new standard from Microsoft that improves PC reliability
by providing a consistent Windows-resident service for
installing applications, managing potential DLL conflicts,
and performing automated self-healing. The ON MSI Package
Wizard is a breakthrough point-and-click tool for Windows
Installer-compatible applications, that automatically
creates unattended deployment packages without the need
for manual and error-prone re-packaging or scripting,
as with conventional software distribution solutions.
Wise Package Studio is the premier
application packaging solution that helps IT administrators
streamline the process of preparing software applications
for deployment. It combines best practice methodologies
with the latest software installation technology, giving
administrators complete control over installations and
ensuring predictable and reliable software deployment
results.
Robert Halsey, Director of Strategic
Alliances at Wise Solutions added, "Wise understands
that customers are looking for intuitive authoring and
deployment solutions that deliver automated and easy-to-use
workflows. We created this partnership because both
companies saw an opportunity to jointly satisfy this
need in the marketplace. We believe this partnership
will allow us to offer these benefits to our customers.
Phil Neray, Vice-President of Marketing
for ON Technology, said: "As the recognized leader
in helping customers perform large-scale Windows 2000
and XP roll-outs, we are always looking for ways to
make this strategic process even easier. Wise Solutions
is a Microsoft partner and recognized leader in the
field of Windows Installer technology, and the ideal
complement to ON's best-of-breed software management
and deployment solutions."
