Leading European Retailer Chooses
ON Technology System
to Manage Point-of-Sale Systems in Nearly 700 Stores
Largest independent Swiss fashion
retailer selects ON Command CCM
to provide remote software management for 1,700 devices
in retail stores
Waltham,
MA, June 19, 2001 – ON Technology (Nasdaq
NM: ONTC), a leading provider of remote software management
solutions, today announced that Charles Voegele Group
has selected ON Command CCM™ to manage business-critical
software across its corporate network of 1,700 Point-of-Sale
(POS) terminals and merchandising systems at 698 stores
in five European countries. ON Command CCM will allow
Charles Voegele, Switzerland’s largest independent
fashion retailer, to remotely deploy and control all
software installations and updates from centralized
ON servers, eliminating the need to send technicians
to remote sites.
ON Command CCM will remotely manage
65 store applications, including POS software, merchandise
management applications, credit card reader software,
and touch-screen applications, for the company’s
NCR POS terminals and Siemens store PCs. The system
will also be used to remotely deploy and manage Windows
NT operating systems across the company’s corporate
network. Charles Voegele expects ON Command CCM to significantly
reduce IT operating costs, improve IT quality of service,
and enhance availability of its mission-critical business
applications. With annual revenues totaling more than
1 billion Swiss francs, the group depends on its information
systems to manage thousands of daily transactions and
give the management team the data needed for developing
successful business strategies.
“ON Command CCM imposes very
modest system requirements, but permits unrestricted,
centralized client administration. That means lower
IT costs for us and improved PC availability,”
says Eduardo Stahel, Manager POS at Charles Voegele
Trading AG. “Our IT department can now manage
more computers at lower cost than before, which directly
impacts our return on investment and total cost of ownership.”
“Charles Voegele’s
selection of ON Command CCM to manage remote store devices
demonstrates our ability to penetrate large new markets
outside of the traditional corporate setting,”
said Robert L. Doretti, ON Technology Chairman, President
and CEO. “It also validates the extensibility
of our architecture to a range of distributed network
environments where robust and unattended remote software
management is increasingly required for organizations
to remain ultra-efficient and competitive.”
The entire project was completed
in only three months, demonstrating ON Command CCM’s
unique ability to solve real-world IT problems quickly
and reliably. Safetec Consulting AG, an ON Technology
partner located in Zug, Switzerland, was responsible
for rolling out the project to new branches and integrating
all existing POS terminals and merchandising systems
into the new management environment.
