Library of
Congress Chooses ON iCommand™ to Manage 5,000
Workstations Across Washington DC Campus
ON Technology Now Listed on General Services Administration (GSA) Schedule
via Partnership with JB Cubed
Waltham,
MA (Oct. 1, 2003) – ON Technology Corporation
(Nasdaq:ONTC), a leading provider of infrastructure
management solutions, today announced that the Library
of Congress has placed an order for the company’s
ON iCommand™ software suite. The ON solution will
be used to manage 5,000 business-critical workstations
across six distributed locations in Washington D.C.
For the first time, all Library of Congress workstations
and applications will be managed and updated from a
single central location.
The Library of Congress is the
world’s largest library with over 14 million books
and 36 million manuscripts. The Library also administers
the American copyright system, while its Congressional
Research Service prepares reports on any topic at the
request of a member of Congress.
The initial phase of the ON iCommand
implementation, which is currently underway, will automate
the delivery of critical service packs and complex groupware
applications to all 5,000 Library of Congress workstations.
In its second phase, the agency’s IT department
will leverage ON iCommand to automate the bare metal
provisioning of new workstations, the deployment of
next-generation operating systems, and one-click disaster
recovery.
By providing a centralized and
automated infrastructure for deploying software “over
the wire” – rather than via traditional
sneakernet – ON iCommand enhances IT security
while lowering ongoing IT costs and enhancing the Library
of Congress’ ability to rapidly respond to customer
requests.
Robert L. Doretti, Chairman, President
and CEO of ON Technology, said “While we have
provided solutions to state and local government agencies
throughout the U.S. and Europe, we are honored to have
been chosen by such an important and prestigious institution
as the Library of Congress. Our solution will help manage
its most critical workstations and applications as they
document our nation’s greatest treasure –
the words of its citizens. Our selection by the Library
of Congress also came as a result of our acceptance
by the GSA, which was due in no small part to our partnership
with JB Cubed; we look forward to working together in
providing the same value to other federal institutions.”
Mr. Doretti continued, “We
are also pleased that the Library of Congress chose
our solution after evaluating other competing solutions
on the market, and selected our solution because of
its enhanced flexibility and reliability compared to
traditional image - and snapshot-based tools.”
The Library of Congress is the
first joint customer between ON Technology and JB Cubed.
The company also announced that, through its previously
announced partnership with JB Cubed, ON Technology has
been added to the U.S. General Services Administration
(GSA) list of federally approved contractors.
ON Technology solutions are already
being used successfully in many other state and federal
government installations, including the National Library
of Medicine, the National Eye Institute, U.S. Courts,
Senate of Pennsylvania, New Jersey Department of Law
& Public Safety, and Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
