ON Technology Supports Microsoft
at Windows XP Launch
in New York City
ON Command CCM Automates Enterprise-Wide
Migrations to Windows XP, Providing Rapid, Consistent
and Unattended Deployment with Minimal IT Resources,
and Efficient Ongoing Administration
Waltham,
MA, October 24, 2001 - ON Technology Corporation
(Nasdaq:ONTC), a leading provider of remote software
and content management solutions, today joined Microsoft
Corp. in New York City to demonstrate its support of
the Windows XP launch. As a member of the Microsoft
Management Alliance (MMA), ON Technology worked closely
with Microsoft and beta customers of Windows XP to develop
an end-to-end software management solution that automates
enterprise-wide migrations to Windows XP Professional.
This automated approach allows enterprises to cost-effectively
deploy as well as provide ongoing support for Windows
XP environments from centralized management servers,
without incurring the time and labor costs of sending
technicians to all end-user locations to manually install
and configure software.
"Windows XP brings us numerous
benefits including enhanced performance, reliability,
and security," said Carl Easton, Director of IS,
Palmer Dodge LLP, a nationally-recognized law firm based
in Boston. "Thanks to ON Technology's software
solution and services, we are migrating to Windows XP
Professional faster and with minimal IT resources. ON
Command CCM also provides us with an ongoing management
infrastructure that significantly reduces our support
requirements and frees our people to focus on proactively
creating new IT solutions for end-users."
"Windows XP, with superior
reliability and efficiency, offers corporate customers
the tools to achieve the highest level of productivity,"
said John Frederiksen, general manager of Windows marketing
at Microsoft. "It is through the support of companies
such as ON Technology, that we are able to deliver a
great computing experience to business users."
ON Command CCM™ supports
remote unattended installation and personalization of
Windows XP as well as of off-the-shelf applications
such as Microsoft Office XP and Outlook, client/server
applications such as Oracle and Siebel, and internally-developed
applications. ON also provides automated routines for
migrating user files and personalized settings to the
new Windows XP environment. ON Command CCM leverages
key Microsoft standards such as the Microsoft Management
Console (MMC), Windows NT Domains or Active Directory,
Microsoft Software Installer (MSI), SysPrep, and WinBOM,
to provide seamless integration with Microsoft environments.
It also supports heterogeneous environments with multiple
PC operating system platforms (Windows XP, Windows 2000,
Windows NT, and Windows 95 and 98), from centralized
Windows NT, Windows 2000 or UNIX management servers.
"ON Technology is committed
to helping enterprises deploy Windows XP faster and
more reliably, while lowering IT costs," said Phil
Neray, vice-president of marketing, ON Technology. "Our
solutions also deliver significant ongoing benefits
by providing a powerful management infrastructure for
deploying and tracking all critical software, such as
security patches, anti-virus updates, and new or updated
applications, as well as performing one-click disaster
recovery."
