The Home Depot Selects ON Technology
Solution for
Centralized Management of 150,000-Plus Retail Workstations
ON Command CCM Lowers IT Infrastructure
Costs While Enhancing Customer Service for World's
Largest Home Improvement Retailer
Waltham,
MA, December 3, 2001 - ON Technology (NASDAQ:
ONTC), a leading provider of enterprise infrastructure
management solutions, today announced that The Home
Depot (NYSE: HD) has selected ON Command CCM® to
manage its worldwide network of 150,000-plus retail
workstations in over 1,300 store locations. Home Depot's
significant investment in ON Command CCM allows the
company to rapidly deploy and continuously update mission-critical
store applications and Windows 2000 operating systems
to all of its retail stores from centralized UNIX servers,
over the company's internal network.
"With ON Command CCM, The
Home Depot is significantly reducing IT infrastructure
costs while simultaneously providing superior customer
service," said Michael E. Anderson, Vice President
of Information Systems (IS) for The Home Depot. "We
chose ON Command CCM after a comprehensive evaluation
of competitive offerings, and no other vendor comes
close. ON's unique solution delivers superior enterprise
scalability and reliability as well as comprehensive
lifecycle management. We are also impressed by the system's
open and flexible architecture, which allows us to easily
integrate it with our existing infrastructure such as
LDAP-based directory services."
ON Command CCM reduces infrastructure
costs for The Home Depot by eliminating the need for
technicians to travel to remote stores to install and
configure new Windows 2000-based workstations. Customer
service is also enhanced because new and updated store
applications (such as custom paint mixing and kitchen
cabinet design programs) are now immediately available
at all remote stores. Unlike conventional management
solutions, ON Command CCM is the only enterprise-class
system that offers comprehensive lifecycle management
of remote systems, including operating system installations
and disaster recovery as well as installation of applications,
ongoing updates, and content.
With a new store opening every
43 hours on average, The Home Depot needed an enterprise
management system to rapidly and reliably roll-out new
workstations as well as constantly keep them up-to-date.
The company also needed an automated mechanism for rapidly
performing disaster recovery on store workstations in
case of accidental misconfiguration or corruption, in
order to further enhance customer satisfaction and minimize
costly down-time in the stores.
The Home Depot currently operates
in 48 states in the USA as well as in Canada, Mexico
and the Caribbean. The company's IT infrastructure consists
of UNIX servers and retail workstations running Microsoft
Windows connected over a corporate Wide Area Network
(WAN).
"We're delighted to have The
Home Depot as one of our key customers," said Abraham
N. Ayat, Vice-President of Field Operations at ON Technology.
"With their significant investment in our technology,
The Home Depot will benefit from active participation
in our product planning reviews as we continue to ensure
the delivery of high-quality products and services that
solve our customers' mission-critical business challenges."
