OREM, Utah, U.S.A. - Jan. 7, 2002 -
PowerQuest Corporation has been named by EDS (NYSE: EDS) as the imaging and deployment solution provider for the Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) contract with the U.S. Department of the Navy. EDS will use PowerQuest DeployCenter™ as the solution to create images of NMCI computers and servers, and then quickly and reliably deploy those images throughout the NMCI infrastructure. EDS will use DeployCenter when upgrading computers and servers to a new operating system, deploying new computer equipment, or restoring a computer image after a system crash.
“Reliability is extremely important in creating and deploying system images for NMCI,” said Rob O’Gorman, enterprise architecture platform lead at EDS. “We needed a solution that would preserve the exact images and enable us to deploy those images quickly and efficiently. PowerQuest DeployCenter gives us maximum efficiency, which not only reduces our costs but also offers us exceptionally high reliability and performance.”
EDS’ $6.9 billion NMCI contract supporting the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps is the largest information technology contract ever awarded by the U.S. government. The NMCI is a comprehensive enterprise-wide initiative to make the full range of network-based information services available to sailors, Marines, and civilian personnel for day-to-day activities and in war. When completed, NMCI will encompass more than 400,000 workstations and 5,000 servers, including Windows-based file/print servers, application servers and database servers, located at 300 military bases in the United States, Puerto Rico, Cuba and Iceland.
