Southern Company Selects PowerQuest's Drive Image Pro 4.0 to Simplify Hard Drive Imaging
Agreement will help leading electricity provider save time and money deploying and upgrading 20,000 Windows PCs
OREM, Utah - Jan. 8, 2001 -
An agreement between Southern Company (NYSE:SO), a leading U.S. electricity provider, and PowerQuest® Corporation, a provider of proven solutions for storage management, provides Southern Company with resource-saving technology for deploying and upgrading its 20,000 workstations. The solution allows Southern Company to burn a standard base image, as well as customized departmental images, to CDs for use at the company’s headquarters and at other remote field offices. The deal also allows Southern Company to ensure systems are up and running to provide its customers with optimal energy services.
PowerQuest will provide Southern Company with a site license of Drive Image® Pro 4.0, the latest release of PowerQuest’s solution for imaging and deploying PC workstations in minutes. The CD-R/W support found in version 4.0 was one of the critical factors Southern Company considered when choosing a deployment solution. IT specialists now will carry a set of nine CDs containing spanned images to re-configure various desktop and laptop computers.
“Southern Company needed a dependable solution its analysts and specialists in the field could use no matter what,” said Douglas Carey, Southern Company workstation product expert. “Field specialists now have images for various hardware platforms customized on CDs. They use those CDs to re-configure their workstations in a fraction of the time previously required to perform the same operation by imaging over a server.”
Southern Company was familiar with PowerQuest’s proven technology from trusted vendors like Microsoft, which recommended Drive Image Pro for workstation deployment. Southern Company plans to use the software to upgrade workstations from Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000 sometime this year.
