PowerQuest PowerExpert SRM 5.0 Improves Data Availability, Optimizes Enterprise Storage Resources
Centrally managed, real-time SRM solution provides enhanced reporting and policy management to eliminate downtime, manage content and maximize storage investment
OREM, Utah - March 20, 2002 -
PowerQuest® Corporation, a provider of proven solutions for storage management, announces the release of PowerQuest PowerExpert™ SRM 5.0, a software solution providing real-time storage resource management for Windows enterprises. PowerExpert SRM 5.0 empowers the IT administrator to move from traditional crisis-driven, reactive storage management to proactive, even predictive storage management to meet the IT challenges associated with managing data growth.
Storage resource management (SRM) software provides enterprises with greater visibility and control over networked storage resources. New reporting and policy management features in PowerExpert SRM 5.0 improve enterprise storage performance, ensure data availability and maximize the existing storage investment by enforcing corporate data storage policies. Implementing and enforcing storage policies also reduces the amount of time required for regular backups of the storage environment.
PowerExpert SRM 5.0 allows IT administrators to identify and reclaim wasted disk space, block unwanted file types, allocate appropriate space controls for users, directories and applications, and enable users to perform fast and easy file clean-up through Web-based storage management reports, all from a remote location using a secure Web user interface.
"Today’s enterprise customers are being forced to deal with the explosion of data and storage resource demands," says Don Kleinschnitz, CTO and senior vice president of storage products at PowerQuest. "In today’s cost-pressured IT environment, improved resource management is critical. PowerExpert provides a proactive way to optimize resources."
Ensure Data Availability
PowerExpert SRM 5.0 adds enhanced SRM reporting and best practice policies for direct attached storage, SAN* and NAS** environments. These enhancements help eliminate downtime previously caused by exceeding capacity, providing maximum data availability for the enterprise. Policy-based management also decreases the time required for backup or server upgrades by ensuring that only the most critical files are stored on the protected server.
Enforce Corporate Data Policies
PowerExpert SRM 5.0 provides the ability to block unwanted file types from being written to corporate servers, giving the administrator ultimate control over storage growth, resources and performance. Administrators minimize risk by using PowerExpert SRM 5.0 to manage content such as personal employee files and eliminating the storage of questionable or inappropriate content and destructive viruses while proactively protecting against file server damage.
Optimize Storage Investment and Plan for Future
Through PowerExpert SRM’s policy management features, administrators not only ensure that corporate data is on the server but also automate the tedious act of manual file server cleanup, thus saving time and reducing total cost of ownership. Administrators can ultimately extend the life of existing storage resources and reallocate funds to other IT projects. Once existing storage resources have been optimized, IT decision makers can use the capacity planning features in PowerExpert SRM 5.0 to predict future storage needs up to a year into the future.
Flexible Storage Management
With PowerExpert SRM 5.0, administrators can manage all Windows-based storage centrally from a Web-based console and receive threshold alerts based on implemented storage policies. The console also integrates seamlessly with other frameworks and custom corporate environments through SNMP, DCOM and scriptable interfaces. This empowers administrators with the flexibility to control all PowerExpert SRM capabilities from other programming languages or management consoles.
Additional New Features
PowerExpert SRM 5.0 includes enhanced support of Microsoft’s Windows 2000 Active Directory and rapid file scanning, which allows reports to run up to 700 percent faster than previous versions. The product also includes new features to enhance SRM reporting and best practice policies.
