Frankenberg Named Chairman of Board for PowerQuest
OREM, Utah May 23, 2000 -
Shareholders of PowerQuest Corporation today elected Robert J. Frankenberg to the company's board of directors, following which the board selected Frankenberg as Chairman of the Board. Frankenberg, who is chairman, CEO and president of Encanto Networks of Santa Clara, Calif., replaces PowerQuest founder and CEO Eric J. Ruff as Chairman of the Board. Ruff remains CEO and a board member for PowerQuest.
"PowerQuest's success and rapid growth has led us to a new phase in our history," said Ruff. "We are expanding into more international markets and extending our products to more enterprise solutions than ever before. By transitioning the Chairman responsibilities to Bob, I can better focus on the storage management market and the future of PowerQuest technology, allowing me to provide the vision that PowerQuest expects from its CEO."
Frankenberg, a long-time executive with Hewlett Packard and former Chairman, CEO and President of Novell, said the first thing that attracted him to the PowerQuest board was the people involved with the company.
"PowerQuest has an incredibly talented management team that has made enormous progress in delivering storage management capabilities to both the corporate and the consumer market," Frankenberg said. "They have a talented set of engineers who create great technology. PowerQuest is in an exciting market position and it will be rewarding for me to contribute to the company's continued success."
In addition to Frankenberg, L.D. Bowerman of Salt Lake City was elected by shareholders to the PowerQuest board of directors.
"The addition of Bob and L.D. makes the PowerQuest board stronger than it has ever been," Ruff stated. Both are experienced, successful businessmen who bring great insight and character to PowerQuest. Bob's extensive background in the high tech industry provides a perspective we have not previously enjoyed.
Frankenberg added that he looks forward to applying his years of experience to PowerQuest's continued growth.
"I've been involved over many years in developing and delivering system and software products to the market and in building companies, he said. "I'm excited about the opportunity to work with the talented team that attracted me here as we lead PowerQuest to even greater success."
Prior to joining Encanto in May 1997, Frankenberg was the Chairman, President and CEO of Novell, Inc. from April 1994 to August 1996. He led Novell through a major strategy change to focus the company on its network software business.
Prior to joining Novell, Bob was Vice President and General Manager of the Personal Information Products Group at Hewlett Packard (HP), responsible for HP's personal computer, PC server, networking, calculator, and consumer product lines. Under his leadership, HP's personal computer business moved from 26th in market share to 7th. He worked in a variety of leadership positions at Hewlett Packard after joining the company in 1969.
Bob serves as a member of the boards of directors for Daw Technologies; Electroglas, Inc.; National Semiconductor; Secure Computing, Inc.; and Scansoft. He also serves on the boards of the Sundance Film Festival and Westminster College. Bob is a 1974 summa cum laude Computer Engineering graduate of San Jose State University and a SEP graduate of Stanford's Graduate School of Business.
Bowerman worked for Kiewit Construction for 38 years, concluding his career at Kiewit as the worldwide manager of the Underground Construction Group. He retired in 1993 and is currently serving as president of three companies: LD Bowerman Investments, focused on commercial and residential Real Estate; Contractors Unlimited, a construction company; and One Enterprises, a video and movie production company. He is a member of the American Institute of Mining Engineers and serves on the board of directors for DAW Inc. and the board of trustees for This Is The Place Heritage Park.
