Quantum, PowerQuest Team to Offer Complete Disaster Recovery Solution
PowerQuest DeployCenter and Quantum Network Attached Storage Servers Provide Customers End-to-End Solution for Data, Application and OS Protection
MILIPITAS, Calif. and OREM, Utah - July 16, 2002 -
Quantum Corp. (NYSE:DSS), a leading provider of data protection and network storage systems, and PowerQuest® Corporation, a provider of storage lifecycle automation to businesses worldwide, today announced a strategic alliance to provide disaster recovery solutions to customers of Quantum’s Network Attached Storage (NAS) products. As part of this alliance, Quantum Snap Server® and Guardian™ NAS server customers in North America may download a free 30-day evaluation version of PowerQuest DeployCenter™ 5.01 which, when combined with PowerQuest DataKeeper™ technology already included with every Quantum NAS product, provides customers with the capability of a complete end-to-end disaster recovery solution.
System failures on a single hard drive or an entire network can result in lost or unavailable operating systems, application software and irreplaceable data. With the combined solution of Quantum NAS products and PowerQuest software, IT professionals and end users have the ability to restore anything from an entire network operating system to information from an individual file.
Quantum customers can implement a multi-faceted disaster recovery solution that consists of storing static image files of PCs or servers onto a Quantum Snap Server or Guardian NAS server through PowerQuest DeployCenter, allowing quick and simple recovery of complete partitions or individual files. At the same time, PowerQuest DataKeeper continuously monitors desktop file activity while running in the background, automatically creating and saving a backup to the Quantum NAS server every time a file is modified.
"Quantum and PowerQuest are working together to offer data asset protection solutions that are cost effective and simple to administer for any organization, whether a small business or a Fortune 1000," said Steve Rogers, vice president of networked storage products marketing of Quantum’s Storage Solutions Group. "Our alliance will enable us to deliver those benefits directly to customers through a combined hardware and software solution.
"This latest offering continues a three-year relationship between Quantum and PowerQuest. Since 1999, Quantum’s industry-leading Snap Servers have shipped with PowerQuest DataKeeper. With the introduction of its Guardian NAS servers in April 2002, Quantum also provides its large business and enterprise-level customers the added protection of PowerQuest DataKeeper for automated client data backup.
"The combination of PowerQuest software and Quantum’s NAS products is an excellent blend of technologies," said Steve Fairbanks, vice president of product management at PowerQuest. "With PowerQuest’s exact imaging technology included in DeployCenter, Quantum customers can be assured they are saving an exact duplicate of their systems and data."
Additionally, PowerQuest’s DeployCenter provides an effective method of creating and deploying custom images to client systems using a Quantum Snap Server or Guardian server. DeployCenter offers ease-of-use through scheduling and reporting capabilities and virtual floppy technology, which removes the need for boot disks. With DeployCenter, customers can deploy images to multiple systems or deploy an upgrade for a single application within minutes.
Quantum NAS servers are distributed through Arrow Electronics, Bell Microproducts, Ingram Micro and Tech Data, and are available from select Quantum resellers.
