PowerQuest PartitionMagic 8.0 Extends Protection, Performance, Optimization Benefits to Computer Users of All Skill Levels
New Wizards, file browser increase ease-of-use in partitioning solution
OREM Utah – Sept. 23, 2002 –
PowerQuest® Corporation, a provider of storage lifecycle automation to businesses worldwide, announces the release of PartitionMagic® 8.0, the latest version of the award-winning partitioning solution. PartitionMagic 8.0 features a new look and feel to give PC users of all skill levels the power to separate and protect user data and system files, optimize PC performance and run multiple operating systems.
The enhanced user interface resembles the familiar Windows XP look and feel and offers an easy-to-use file browser that includes file and folder-moving/copying functionality. The file browser feature permits computer users to move files and folders between multiple partitions such as from an NTFS to a Linux Ext3 partition. New wizards and a Flash tour give simple instructions and detailed guidelines, enabling novice PartitionMagic users to easily create and manipulate partitions to increase the protection of important data and optimize the performance of their computer.
In the age of large data files and rapidly expanding storage capacity, users have several types of data and more space than ever in which to store it. PartitionMagic 8.0 gives users the freedom to manage and protect their system and important data. For example, digital photos can be placed in a distinct partition separate from user documents and the operating system, giving the user flexibility in reinstalling an OS in the event of a system crash without destroying cherished memories or valuable documents. And for a limited time, PartitionMagic 8.0 will also include PowerQuest DataKeeper™, a $70 value incremental backup solution for complete protection of valuable user data. With PowerQuest DataKeeper, personal documents and family photos can be backed up automatically to a separate partition or removable media device to ensure total peace of mind.
Using PartitionMagic 8.0 to separate data into smaller partitions helps improve data management efficiency. For example, rather than scan an entire 60GB drive to find and access a file, the user is able to more rapidly access files stored in a 5GB partition set aside only for documents. PartitionMagic 8.0’s capability to change NTFS and FAT 32 cluster sizes can also improve PC performance.
PartitionMagic 8.0 lets users maintain and utilize multiple operating systems on their hard drive, so they can adjust to the latest OS before discarding the familiar version. Because PartitionMagic 8.0 supports various file systems (NTFS, FAT 32, FAT, Linux Ext2 and Linux Ext3), users are also able to run multiple OSes—such as a Windows and a Linux OS or multiple language versions of an OS. Once separate partitions are created for multiple OSes, BootMagic®, included with PartitionMagic 8.0, permits the user to safely switch between operating systems.
New additions to PartitionMagic 8.0 include:
- A new file browser that allows users to browse, copy or move files and folders from one partition (and OS) to another, including the ability to manage files in hidden partitions
- New wizards that guide the user through the process of creating a backup partition or installing another OS
- PowerQuest DataKeeper, an incremental backup program that can be configured for continuous backup of important data
- Support for partition sizes up to 160-GB*
- NTFS cluster resize capabilities, permitting the user to improve PC performance with more efficient cluster sizes
- A Flash tour that displays a picture-by-picture tutorial of common-use scenarios for PartitionMagic 8.0
- PQBoot lets users select the OS they wish to use on the next reboot directly from a Windows environment
- Support for Linux Ext3 partitions, Firewire, GRUB and USB2 from a Windows environment
- “Hot” NFTS partition enlargement, which allows users to expand a partition (even a system partition) without needing to reboot
