PowerQuest ServerMagic 4.0 for Windows NT Touts Support for Windows NT Volume Sets
Version 4.0 also adds across-the-wire functionality for creating, formatting, copying, moving or deleting partitions to or from a remote machine via TCP/IP
OREM, Utah - Oct. 17, 2000 -
PowerQuest® Corporation, a provider of proven solutions for storage management, announces the release of ServerMagic® 4.0 for Windows NT®, the newest version of the company’s software solution to simplify server storage management and server deployment. Version 4.0 adds support for Windows NT volume sets, including the ability to check, format, delete, resize or copy volume sets. IT professionals can also create, format, copy, move and delete partitions to or from a remote server using across-the-wire functionality.
ServerMagic allows network administrators to reduce the amount of time required to manage and maintain server storage while increasing data security. Version 4.0 also includes improved scripting capability from an enhanced GUI interface, enabling users to easily create scripts.
"Our customers who use Windows NT Servers have indicated the ability to manipulate Windows NT volume sets is critical to managing their complex server storage needs," said Anne Vincenti, director of product marketing, PowerQuest Corporation. "With the latest version of ServerMagic for Windows NT, we deliver to those customer needs, allowing network administrators to leverage and extend the investment they have already made."
With enterprises demanding a fast, inexpensive solution for setting up servers and upgrading existing servers, ServerMagic 4.0 for Windows NT minimizes system downtime and reduces the overall cost of network ownership and administration. Typically, administrators spend hours, and sometimes days, deploying and reconfiguring servers. Network administrators upgrading a server, for example, have to back up the data on the old hard drive, install and configure the new hardware and restore the data to the new drive. With ServerMagic 4.0 for Windows NT, an administrator can shrink one partition or volume and enlarge another without ever having to perform a risky and time-consuming backup and restore process.
"ServerMagic 4.0 for Windows NT is a very powerful set of utilities for system administrators; a must-have," said Steve Herrick, president of SBH Associates, a venture capital firm located in Menlo Park, Calif. "It’s hard to believe there is so much functionality in the product. If you don’t have ServerMagic when you need it, the cost to your users is far greater than the cost of the product."
ServerMagic 4.0 for Windows NT includes Server Image™ technology, a server deployment tool optimized for Windows NT, to quickly deploy servers throughout the enterprise environment. Using PowerQuest’s SmartSector® imaging technology, IT professionals, service providers and configuration centers can efficiently deploy and configure Microsoft NT Servers, Windows 2000 Servers, and Windows 2000 Advanced Servers.
ServerMagic 4.0 for Windows NT allows administrators to resize, copy, move or create NTFS, FAT, FAT32, Linux Ext2, or Linux Swap partitions on the fly without losing data.
