GE CompuNet Selects PowerQuest Deploy Solutions to Configure Systems

PowerQuest DeployCenter™ and PQIDeploy provides German-based system house a quick and flexible means to configure thousands of computers

OREM, Utah (U.S.A.) – Nov. 11, 2002 – PowerQuest Corporation®, a provider of storage lifecycle automation solutions to businesses worldwide, has been selected by GE CompuNet, a vendor-independent system house for Internet and information technology needs, to deliver system configuration and deployment solutions. The technology plays an integral role in helping GE CompuNet enhance its core business of rapidly supplying fully pre-configured systems—complete with operating system and essential software—to its customers.

“PowerQuest DeployCenter gives us the speed and accuracy to completely configure a sizable order of computers without sacrificing the flexibility to adapt the system image,” Alfons Krauthausen, Managing Director for GE CompuNet said. ”In addition, PowerQuest technology provides the reliability necessary to attract and retain new business, which helps us weather tough economic conditions.”

PowerQuest DeployCenter and PQIDeploy are used by GE CompuNet’s configuration center to rapidly install operating systems and other software using the precise imaging and deployment technology within PowerQuest products. PQIDeploy automates the deployment process and runs on several platforms, including the Windows Preinstallation Environment (WinPE), DOS, Linux, Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. SmartSector technology, which is included in PowerQuest DeployCenter, ensures copies are only made of sectors containing data, saving both time and disk space.

The imaging technology found in DeployCenter and PQIDeploy is the core technology behind PowerQuest’s Virtual Volume Imaging (V2i) technology, which is at the foundation of PowerQuest’s Storage Lifecycle Automation Management architecture. For more information on V2i Technology and SLAM, visit the PowerQuest Web site at http://www.powerquest.com/whitepapers/slam-whitepaper.pdf.
