At the junction of communications and healthcare.
mHealth growth requires a robust set of security standards and technologies to ensure it is widely adopted and deployed. It has the potential to fundamentally transform the way that health care providers, patients, consumers, telecommunications service providers and Independent software and device manufactures interactwith each other. This new paradigm has the potential to increase efficiency, create opportunities to improve quality of care, and improve access to many different kinds of health care services, especially in rural and underserved areas, all while providing new and improved financial and service opportunities for health care companies. The surge in mHealth is a function of a shift towards a more “open health care system” that requires improved communication between patient and health care provider, the provider and the pharmacy etc... mHealth will provide for greater patient empowerment and improved information exchange through the mobile ecosystem. The federal government has provided $19 Billion dollars in incentives, as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), to encourage medical providers to adopt and use electronic medical records (EMR’s). In parallel, clinicians are adopting mobile technologies and telehealth services at rapid speed. We are seeing an unprecedented combination of push(government incentives) and pull (doctor’s love affair with mobile devices), both leading to a changing paradigm on how we access and deliver health information.
Symantec addresses the need to look at the entire end-to-end security posture for information and systems for the entire mHealth ecosystem in order to apply the appropriate technology to solve the right problem. Integrated approaches to data management, security, compliance, privacy concerns among other challenges facing the mHealth environment means effective security with cost effective solutions. Symantec has tested, working solutions for mHealth security, data management and protection, privacy and compliance with a roadmap for new features and capabilities which continually add value.
